Please help me understand

Please help me understand what was confusing about the message -Birth date has been contested. Do not add without a reliably published source. that has led you to believe that it is appropriate to insert a birth date without providing any source? ...uploading images that you find on the Internet. Public domain is a technical term in the law of copyright, meaning something that is not under copyright and so is free for anyone to use for any purpose. The fact that something is posted on the internet does not put it in the public domain: almost everything on the internet is copyright, usually to the photographer or to a newspaper or website if the photographer has sold it to them.
