A tag has been placed on Travelogue (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Jon Sonnenberg

In effect, an article is promotional if it basically serves to provide a brief biography and a ton of links to "official" sites. To be appropriate for an article, the article should cite reliable sources written by those who are independent of the subject. If little or no such independent and reliable source material exists, the subject is not an appropriate one for an article. Seraphimblade Talk to me 15:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, for pete's sake. So everyone is going to delete my articles if there's not two billion references to Jon Sonnenberg or Travelogue in the mass media? This guy is an independent artist, and there is, frankly, not a lot of information out there about him. That's why I was trying to get the information out there. How are people supposed to know about someone if every time a useful information resource comes along, it's deleted?

I'll do the best I can, but I'm thinking that some of you people are just too hard to please.

This is a common misunderstanding (so please don't think I'm trying to jump down your throat for it!), but it is indeed a misunderstanding. Wikipedia is not intended to be a first publisher, to be used to "get the word out", or to ever have information which is unique to us and not verifiable through other sources. It's simply meant to summarize information on those things on which the word is already out. There are certainly plenty of sites, such as Myspace and the like, which allow or even encourage use for promotional campaigns and the like, but we do not. Seraphimblade Talk to me 16:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Does happen! The first article I started was deleted too. It's certainly nothing against you, deleting, merging, and moving of articles happens all the time. For now, probably the best thing to do is have his name be a redirect to the band, so I'll just set it up that way. Usually, the best way to start it off, if there's only a bit of information available on an artist, is to write a brief section on them in the band article, and then if and when they get written about more heavily, split it off into a separate article later on. Orphaned non-free media (Image:EarthsuitTROMScover.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:EarthsuitTROMScover.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:57, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
