ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. "Fan cruft" ? edit

Hello,
Could you tell me why an artist's impression is contraindicated in an article dedicated to a literary character, unlike the fair use of movies captures or a graffiti art ? Is this a English Wikipedia policy, different from the other languages Wiki ?

Is the artist or his work covered in reliable secondary sources which comment on or analyze it? We need to have standards for inclusion, to be fair. See WP:DUE. Also relevant is WP:ELNO which prohibits linking to external sites like your edit did. Elizium23 (talk) 19:58, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
The image combined with the web link appears to me as SPAM. Found it on german wikipedia and it was pushed to many other language versions. But I speak little English and no other languages besides German, so reverted only here and at de-wiki. -- Smial (talk) 22:13, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
You're right, Elizium23 : WP:ELNO is relevant, indeed (after all, the URL pages of the artists who generously gave their works to Wikimedia Commons appear in the Commons pages). My bad, then. However, I don't understand very well how various artists' impressions of litterary characters come into conflict with WP:DUE since it does not pretend to impose a restrictive vision, especially if several illustrations are available. And it's a generally agreed practice in Wikipedia in other languages, like in the French featured article. Guise (talk) 02:41, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
