Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Universal Pictures. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. Wikishovel (talk) 17:00, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Wikishovel,
Universal is often mentioned as Universal Studios in the media instead of Universal Pictures. Even in the end credits of Universal movies, the copyright is “©️ Year Universal Studios” instead of “©️ Year Universal Pictures”. But why is the company called Universal Pictures?
In Universal's intro to 20th Anniversary of E.T. was the phrase under the Universal logo: “Universal Studios celebrates E.T. the 20th Anniversary”. I think it could be a corporate structure like Warner Bros., where there is Warner Bros. Entertainment that is the general company and Warner Bros. Picturesis the distribution company of Warner Bros. Entertainmentand a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
For example, the Polish Wikipedia article about Universal have two articles, one about Universal Pictures and one about Universal Studios.
I think this article, currently called Universal Pictures, should be renamed Universal Studios and that will then be the general company while Universal Pictures gets its own article as the distribution company of Universal Studios and a division of Universal Studios. So it would also make sense with the copyright in Universal movies and media reports it's called Universal Studios, which is the overall company.
This is the reason for move this article to change the name. I could be wrong and if I'm wrong then I'm sorry. SkipperHero (talk) 17:45, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply, but please post this at Talk:Universal Pictures, and get WP:Consensus for your proposed move from your fellow editors. Thanks again, Wikishovel (talk) 19:04, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply Wikishovel. Is there someone specific I can address with this or is it enough if I include “WP:Consensus” in my message? SkipperHero (talk) 18:03, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, if you can't arrive at a quick, informal consensus at the article talk page, then you can formally propose a page move, as described at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Let me know if you want any help with that: it's easier than it looks . Wikishovel (talk) 19:33, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Wikishovel,
I took a look at “WP:Consensus” but I don’t understand how to propose a page move. Maybe I just don't see it. That's why I wanted to ask if you know a direct contact person I can entrust with my message? So a direct administrator or something similar.
Or if you don't mind listing the individual steps.
Thanks for your help SkipperHero (talk) 16:06, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
The steps are listed at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. Wikishovel (talk) 16:18, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Fully concur with above. Also, please do not initiate such a move unless you already have specific evidence based on reliable sources of the distinction between Universal Pictures and Universal Studios. You need a lot more than merely pointing to film credits. For example, you need a book on the history of Universal or an article examining its corporate structure. Your remarks above are cautiously hedged in such a way that it sounds like you are not certain. See WP:ONUS. --Coolcaesar (talk) 16:47, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
To respond to the question just posted on my talk page, no. That article never talks about the relationship between Universal Studios and Universal Pictures. --Coolcaesar (talk) 15:57, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to move pages to bad titles contrary to naming conventions or consensus, as you did at Universal Pictures, you may be blocked from editing. Wikishovel (talk) 16:52, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

December 2023 edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Kung Fu Panda 4 a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Kung Fu Panda 4. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you.
