AID, adminship

Thanks for the heads up about the previous AID discussion. I had skimmed it, but didn't give it much thought since it seemed aimed at the opposite end of the problem (too many low vote noms staying too long, rather than older high-vote noms lagging out). Techtonic plate does seem like a problem... how did it get that many votes in the first place? But many of the others seems like much better candidates than most of the current noms.

Samsara, I'm sorry all this has caused you grief...that shouldn't be the way of things here. I have actively tried to get Hort, Freakofnurture and Tony Sidaway to reconsider and explained to them that if I am satisfied, then there sure as heck isn't any reason why theu shouldn't be. IN a nutshell, I was wholeheartedly wrong about my comments, and they were misplaced. Even if you were the same person, nothing you have done on Wikipedia has shown one any indication that your intentions are anything other than honorable. Sequence alignment layout

You recently made a change to the image layout in sequence alignment. It looks to me that it created a large gap in the article because the image now floats above the table of contents but below the text - but I'm using a 1920x1200 screen, and I don't have a lower-resolution one here to compare. Worthy use of your admin powers

Congratulations on your recent granting of admin powers. I would like to draw your attention to a worthy use of those powers - the closing of copyvio reports listed on WP:CP. As you'll see there are many tens of such reports that need dealing with each day, and the backlog is barely being kept under control despite a couple of us spending lots of time working on them. The process is pretty easy and sorting a few only takes a little time and with a group of people helping, we can keep the backlog under control easily - just review the article & the source to ensure it is a copy, and then delete. Nah, do not think so, I think this would have happened also if you were not an admin. Of the other four targeted, 3 were not admins [1]. Spotting in Sweet Peas

Common Sense vs. Reliable Sources

Samsara,

I know you're an experienced editor, so I want to remind you that while common sense is often useful, it is not appropriate to substitute one's personal common sense for a reliable source. As a tertiary source, one of the core principles underlying Wikipedia is that we publish no original research. In the context of the Coffee article, removing a relevant fact supported by an article published by the Journal of the American Medical Association because your "common sense" disagrees is a form of original research. If you believe the JAMA article is in error, then the proper way to go about things is to find an equally reliable source that takes an opposing view. Then, we can cite both views in the article (hopefully down in the article body somewhere, rather than the intro) and let the reader decide.

As a biologically knowledgeable admin, you might have a better idea on what to do with this - a user, using a variety of IPs, has repeatedly reinserted a link to rnaiconception.com in the RNA interference article, and made changes to the text to support the site's contentions. It is a personal advocacy site run by Mussa Ali (likely the anonymous editor), who is currently involved in an inventorship dispute about RNAi with his former advisor Craig Mello and the co-discoverer Andrew Fire. It's obviously inappropriate to link to only one disputant's perspective on this, and the dispute itself is taken seriously by no one other than Mussa Ali as far as I can tell. Despite several invitations, the user in question hasn't looked at the talk page on the issue, and he's apparently using a dynamic IP so he never gets his own talk page messages. spell check and KDE

KDE and Wikimedia a working together to make it so you can import Wikimedia stuff into KDE applications (probably through a kisoslave). IIRC this will be in KDE4. Hi, I noticed your focus on spell checking on your user page (I presume that your instructions are for Windows, not Mac). When you spell check text in BrEng and AuEng, I suppose that you're aware of the checker's ignorance of the preference for "ise" and its two variants, over "ize" in those varieties of English?
