How was this better?

Diff: [1] How was this change better? Did I miss a WikiProject Film meeting where someone said that ambiguous slashes and parentheticals are somehow better than complete sentences that don't require a decoder ring to figure out? If not, please use normal sentence structure. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:34, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Cyphoidbomb, I added a slash because Arun Vijay had two characters in the film and only one of them was listed in the cast so I added his second role with a slash and I also went off on how Adhurs was formatted for twin roles. SP013 (talk) 01:46, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. You should be aware that slashes are a real problem in Indian entertainment articles, and they are used in many different ways, none of which are intuitive to a reader unfamiliar with an article subject. Sometimes people use them to indicate multiple characters, sometimes people use them to indicate nicknames or various aliases that people have used. It's a major issue, some of which I've detailed here (don't feel compelled to read any of that...) You were at least thoughtful enough to be clear as to what your usage meant, but I think it might have been more constructive to write:
  • Arun Vijay in a dual role as twins Ezhil and Kavin
That communicates the same thing and doesn't require other linguistic oddities, like unnecessary parentheticals. (That too is a problem in Indian entertainment articles, which I also detail in that screed I linked to.) Thanks for listening and my query wasn't meant to be personal, although it was a bit pissy, so I apologise for that. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:31, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
