Hello, Ryan3127, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

The Holocaust

edit

Hi! I saw that you selected the article on the Holocaust as your chosen article for class, however I wanted to discuss this with you. This is an extremely heavily edited and discussed article on Wikipedia, so much so that there are multiple years of discussion from people going back and forth on the topic as far as what should be added, what sources should be used, and how it should be phrased. It's an extremely difficult article to edit, to the point where a PhD student had an extraordinarily large amount of difficulty editing the article, even with having an experienced Wikipedia editor helping them. The article is also sanctioned, which means that there's an even higher emphasis placed on discussion, neutrality, and using the strongest possible sources one can find. You'd absolutely have to discuss any and all edits on the article's talk page before adding anything and if anything is disputed - even if only the discussion on the talk page - it should not be added (or re-added) to the article.

To be honest, this is an article that I wouldn't recommend editing unless you are very familiar with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies, as well as have some general familiarity with the history of the article. There are some Holocaust related stubs at Category:Holocaust stubs, if you wanted to look through them and see if there's anything you'd like to edit.
