Ongongolwa Village
editOngongolwa village is situated in the Northern part of Namibia,Omusati region, Uukwaludhi district. Historically this village was named after some traditional fruits (Omangongolwa)previously found in the pans, lakes and ponds of this village. In the past during drought seasons people of this village use to collect Omangongolwa fruits as the main source of food as they are dry season fruits. this is the only place known in Namibia to have such type of fruits. people from other villages also came for these fruits during drought seasons.
Today this village hardly grow this king of Fruits trees and some the younger people are not aware of such history. there is Two schools Known as Ongongolwa Primary School and Keendawala Junior Secondary School. In this village there is many entrepreneurialbusinesses of different types of industries. Development such as clean water, electricity and health care center are part of this village. this village is under the leadership of Uukwaludhi Traditional Authority, by the Headman Mr Mathew Auwala.
ongongolwa village is not a village were crimes happen often but there are worst crimes that happened in this village whereby 6 men nabbed a stolen bakkie some 6 years ago and hidden it in a homestead of the village with the intention of selling the parts of the car. further investigations were followed until they were arrested and were not given bail so they had to stay in custody. Another case of armed robbery was reported were a sales person was threatened with a firearm by a suspect who robbed him cases of alcohol,cigarettes and money.
