Wikipedia Week

The best existing proposal I can, in my own limited way, think of for the previously discussed "appreciation week" can now be found at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week#Wikipedia Week. Any comments or responses would be more than welcome. Badbilltucker 15:02, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I saw your response and agree with it totally. If you can ensure that some of the members get appropriate service awards, all the better. I'm afraid I'll probably be disbursing to a lot of project myself. You really don't want to see how many projects I belong to that'll need someone to give the recognition. Badbilltucker 17:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Hearthstone Historic House Museum, was selected for DYK!

On January 6, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Hearthstone Historic House Museum, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 01:48, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Mayor Perez

Thanks. I am close friends with Mayor Perez, so thats why I am showen with him in that photo. Last night, I was thinking about adding a photo but both photos got deleted (something about copyright, use, and me in it). So, thanks! Asher Heimermann 18:23, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

North American Motorsport Project

Thanks for the invite. I'm not sure about committing to a project at this time as I'm only occasionally popping in to wikipedia while working on a couple programs so I wouldn’t be much help. Once I'm finished though, I will try and finish up the baja 1000 article and also try to help with the project.--I already forgot 22:06, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, sounds good. I'm entered to compete in the Great Race as a co-driver this year so I will try and expand on that article as I do research and prepare for the competition. Do the ol' kill two birds with one stone routine. --I already forgot 22:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Hi there. Hope you don't mind, but I added some links and references to the Sheboygan spaceport and Rockets for Schools projects, and a citation for the proposed establishment of it. -- Alucard (Dr.) 15:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! It took me several hours to write what I found. It is difficult to find anything from the past few months. Royalbroil T : C 16:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey again, RB. I have been working on the Formula BMW article, and I wondered whether you could give your opinion of the USA section from an American race fan's POV. I'm hoping that it's balanced and accurate. Thanks! Adrian M. H. 19:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

That is my parents' barn. I am temporarily living there until May when I graduate from college. So I call it "my barn". I got a nice image of it shortly during an especially beautiful moment after a snowfall in November 2006. Royalbroil T : C

Your barn

Thanks for the barn. :-) I've scaled back on my Wikiing for a couple of months, but I hope to get back to it after that, and I hope to write a bunch more Wisconsin articles this summer. -Freekee 06:24, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I urge everyone who received "my barn" to pass the wikilove on to the Wikipedia contributors who you feel have helped this project the most this past year! Even better, create your own personal award! It will still be Wikipedia week until Sunday! Royalbroil T : C 05:04, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you-

Many thanks for the Barnstar! I enjoy being part of WikiProject Wisconsin. Again, my thanks and appreciation.RFD 12:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism on Cock throwing

Hi. Thanks for the revert -- I couldn't tell what exactly was changed in the previous edits, but thankfully you were there. One question, was it tough for you to find the faulty edit? I'm wondering if my slight colorblindness has something to do with my difficulty in finding the changes. Xiner (talk, email) 03:06, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Morbid curiosity had me reading the DYK article. I noticed a wierd question mark that appeared to be out of place. I checked the history, and I determined that a warned vandal had made it, so I removed it. Royalbroil T : C 03:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Appleton Onion article

So, this week, the satircal newspaper The Onion did a story on Appleton. It's a cute little piece about how supposedly we have a thriving sex tourism industry. Anyway, people keep adding the article as a reference link. I wouldn't delete it using WP:SPAM, because it's not an advertisement. But it is completely unencyclopedic. If it happens again, I'm going to request semiprotection. Thor Rudebeck 07:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

I support keeping the link off the page, and I will help you watch the page. Thanks for the heads up! Royalbroil T : C 20:54, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Wisconsin

Hi Royalbroil... thanks for giving me a barnstar on my talkpage. I appreciate the recognition! I think I'm going to be away from Wikipedia for a time and thought I'd invite you to "adopt" the Wisconsin Portal if you'd like, as it could use an occasional update to its sections. Take care! 72.131.44.247 06:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Calm yourself down: email addresses are not such a big thing. It's good that you're looking out for the guy, who seems dead set on making himself as vulnerable as possible, but don't make yourself ill over it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention: I have in turn brought it to the attention of further admins and we will all be keeping an eye on it. Please feel free to let me know if you see anything else which worries you, but don't worry yourself into the ground  . HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 10:14, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm hardly worried into the ground or uncalm. I don't understand how you made that assessment. I just wanted to make sure that he didn't do anything to get himself in trouble. He did something that I wouldn't do, so I asked for a second opinion to make sure that my reversion didn't go too far. Apparently I did. No harm, no foul. Great Midwest Trivia Contest

I noticed on your page that you were in the Great Midwest Trivia Contest. I was just wondering what the last question was. I've tried to find a list of the ones that they have asked over the years but I have not been able to find one. --ChesterMarcol 23:48, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Politics of Sheboygan

I added a small thing about politics in the City of Sheboygan. If you use websites like SheboyganTalk.com, SheboyganSpirit.com, and ect, you will get alot of info. Asher Heimermann 04:54, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I didn't plan on moving the article in that direction. I have no problem with what you have added. Feel free to expand that section, but be careful what websites you use as references, and make sure that they aren't slanted either right or left, or blogs. I don't follow politics much, and I don't read political websites. I just know what was common knowledge when I lived in Sheboygan. That was 1 1/2 years ago. My knowledge of Sheboygan is somewhat dated. Cheers! Royalbroil T : C 05:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Manitowoc/Branch

When I saw the picture on the Manitowoc article I just removed it because Im not too proficient in all the aspects of wikipedia, but I didnt want to leave it on there. The Branch Blaze is a semi-pro team, I dont really know if they would be considered "notable" but I thought if they were going to have an article their name should at least be spelled right. --ChesterMarcol 17:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Joe Jagersberger

Hi - uh, thanks for the friendly comments on my talk page, but I'm not Patricia Hartley (who apparently wrote that text regarding Joe Jagersberger) - I don't know the first thing about racing :) I merely copied a "misplaced" message from commons' village pump to where i thought it might be helpful (Talk:Joe Jagersberger). Ms Hartley can be contacted using dnhartley AT gmail - or so the text sais.

Your edits to the German Wikipedia look quite OK, though please put the commons sister-link template into the links section at the bottom of pages, not at the top.

Disambiguation of "Indycar"

Hi Royalbroil. Recently User:PaddyM has been disambiguating lots of links to Indycar. I notice that PaddyM isn't listed as a member of WikiProject:American Open Wheel Racing, and some of the disambiguations seem a bit arbitrary to me. I was wondering if you or other members of WP:AOWR might care to have a look at the changes PaddyM has been making, to make sure that you're happy with them. DH85868993 02:57, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Image for DYK

There had been a back and forth discussion about the use of an image for the article. It was at one time replaced with the one with the crane in it; then the article creator noted that there were no rules against using an image with a watermark. The licensing simply requires attribution.

The rules indicate that the image should be used in the article.

The image with the crane was subsequently replaced with the one from Commons requiring attribution; and the current image is the one in the article.

I think that either image is more aesthetically pleasing than the flag.

The update clock will have cycled in a little less than an hour. If you feel strongly about changing it, I'll not object.

ERcheck (talk) 02:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

This may be a bit of a hot potato. But we've not found anything that prohibits them, I can't justify making a stand against using the image. Since that is what is in the article, I'll leave it. I'm not going to object if someone feels strongly about changing it. Thanks. — ERcheck (talk) 03:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Had a look at your fix to footnotes. I'm not used to that format, but it looks like all the cites are still in place, so I'm cool with it. Your comment

Re:[1]. You're quite right- that comment is thoughtlessly phrased. I'm sorry that it upset you- it wasn't my intention to do so, which is why my comment is made on the talkpage of another editor who expressed a delete opinion and not in the discussion. Little House Wayside

I live in Eau Claire (well, just outside EC...), so I'm about 45 miles from the wayside. That said, this summer I'm planning to toodle around west-central Wisconsin a few Sundays, taking pictures... if you look at the pix I've taken of Eau Claire-related articles, you'll see most of them were taken on rather dreary or otherwise miserable winter days. All I have is a relatively decent digicam and disposable cameras, so don't expect anything too spectacular, but I'll make a point of getting down to Lund. Lemme know if you can think of anything else I should be taking pix of. Cheers, Tomertalk 23:46, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Jesus Freak Hideout

An editor has nominated Jesus Freak Hideout, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jesus Freak Hideout and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. WJBscribe's RfA

I posted a comment regarding your vote on WJBscribe's RfA. This is just a friendly suggestion for your consideration, but you may want to change to abstention. Your vote doesn't really change a thing and will only reflect badly on you. —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 19:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

For what it's worth, though, I admire the courage it takes to stand up and voice your opinion in the face of what looks to have been 80-something supports at the time. Wikipedia may not quite be a democracy, but the input of the community is truly important, and that's something I do respect. – Luna Santin (talk) 21:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Response

Thank you for bringing these matters to my attention. I am sorry to hear that you recent editing experiences have been stressful. To address questions you raise:

  • I have not requested that anyone discuss/respond to your comment. I considered the matter closed following my apology to you for any upset caused. I did not apologise to influence you to change your !vote in my RfA, but as I would have done had you raised the matter on my talkpage, which I wish you had done first so that we could have discussed the issue before it ended up in so public a forum.
  • I very much doubt that those deletion nominations are related to my RfA or your comment there. They were nominated by the same edior (who presumably having concerns about the notability of one investigated whether there were other similar articles) but I would be astounded if such nominations were intended to punish or pressure you, something I would not condone. I have faith that Swatjester would not behave in such a manner.
  • As to message above (and responses to your comment on the RfA page itself), they are expressed much more strongly than I would have wished. That being said I would feel as uncomfortable asking those editors not to express their genuine opinions as I would requiring that of you. I have noted on the RfA page that I consider the matter closed and would appreciate it if no one approached on the subject from now on.

You asked me for advice as to what I would do were I in your shoes. As far as the AfD noms are concerned- a large number of uninvolved editors will read the AfDs and concensus can change. Make sure the articles are sourced as well as possible with especial regard to the notability of the subject. As to your oppose comment in my RfA, I would certainly not wish you to withdraw it due to any pressure you have received- that is a matter totally individual to you. WjBscribe 21:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. Given the comments that were made, that can't have been easy. And that you decided not just to not oppose but to support as well means a lot. WjBscribe 01:24, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

re WJBScribe's RFA

Thanks for the note... While I was made aware of his RfA because of his comments on your talkpage, my decision to oppose was unrelated to the interaction between the two of you. I opposed, and continue to do so, on the basis that I don't believe 4 months is a long enough period to establish that who he appears to be is who he will continue to be...nor is it sufficent time for a person to become fully familiar with the workings of WP. While WJBScribe appears to be a possible exception to that general rule, I stand by my view, and if this RfA were unsuccessful and he continues to contribute as he has in the past, I would have little trouble !voting "support" in another few months. That said, my sole opposition is unlikely to ultimately sway the closing bcrat's decision. RfA should not be a popularity contest, either for the candidate nor for the contributors...I have no problem being the sole "oppose" !vote...I would much rather do that than !vote "support" just to be like everyone else.   Cheers, Tomertalk 01:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
