History of Pittsburgh - request for collaboration edit

I've put a lot of additional work into this article, based on feedback from when it was a Featured Article Candidate. Also updated the maps to give them a more standard appearance. I'm going to submit the article for peer review and then FAC again. Before I do, though, I need some help from the WikiProject Pittsburgh. Please take some time and help with these tasks:

  1. improve the article with changes, additions and deletions
  2. some stern proof-reading, please
  3. give it a quality/importance rating at Talk:History of Pittsburgh
  4. leave feedback at Talk:History of Pittsburgh

Thanks. I'll be leaving this note at the talk pages of the project members who have been most active in Pittsburgh-related articles. Tomcool 14:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Is it a word?  ;-) edit

<<Montanabw, is unencyclopediac really a word?  :-). Ronald C. Yochum, Jr. 05:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)>>

Well, correct spelling is actually "Unencyclopedic" with or without a hypnen and it appears to have been invented on wikipedia... http://www.reference.com/search?q=Un-%20encyclopedic&r=d&db=web

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Unencyclopedic&redirect=no

Apparently will eventually be coming to a dictionary near you! ;-)

See also http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Uncyclopedia

So, given that spell-check would miss this...I'll remember to remove the extra "a" next time! Montanabw 19:31, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Rolex Sunken Road 1242.JPG edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Rolex Sunken Road 1242.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Shinerunner (talk) 00:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

All this information was placed when I uploaded it. What is the problem? Ronjamin (talk) 23:11, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

RE:Image copyright problem with Image:Rolex Sunken Road 1242.JPG edit

When I originally tagged this image, there was no license information tag on it. I see from the edit history that you have corrected this problem and have removed the tag. That was the only problem with the image. Thank you for your understanding and help in this matter.Shinerunner (talk) 11:22, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I didn't correct anything. The image was correct when I uploaded it. Your overzealous activities are not appreciated. Ronjamin (talk) 23:12, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Milkmen in US edit

I see you removed a reference here saying incorrect. Strictly it is not incorrect, assuming it was in fact reported that way-- that is, the report may be incorrect but the fact of reporting the report is not. Hard call I know, but I am tempted to reinstate it. Any ideas? SimonTrew (talk) 17:07, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why do I bother? Because I want to make Wikipedia better. That means trying to achieve a consensus not just saying the other person is wrong. SimonTrew (talk) 19:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary edit

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:38, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh activity edit

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussion at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:56, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reply edit

Hi, thanks for message.I deleted your article because

  • it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. It is now Wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references, as defined in the link, or they will be deleted. Your only reference was quoting him, hardly an independent third-party source. Other sources that are not acceptable include social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company claims or interviewing its management.
  • it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic.
  • Most of the article wasn't about him, it was spam for your organisation which didn't mention him
  • Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: leading... best known... He has worked to promote historic preservation as an effective means to creating sustainable affordable housing, healthy neighborhoods and economic development
  • The article was a copyright violation. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. Your website says Copyright © 2015 Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation. All rights reserved. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
  • If there was a copyright violation that you alleged, there should have been a discussion.— no, for legal reasons copyright material is deleted without discussion and will not be reiinstated
  • You have an obvious conflict of interest when it comes to editing articles about this subject, which you are required to declare on each article not just your user page. If, after reading the information about notability linked above, you still believe that your boss is notable enough for a Wikipedia article (and that there is significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources), you could, if you wish, post a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles for the article to be created. See also Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. I'll have to check your other contributions for COI

thanks Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:54, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've cleaned up Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, mainly removing text marked as uncited since Feb 2007, and removing some promotional tone. I've also indicated your undeclared COI. Please don't restore the deleted text without adding independent sources as linked above Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:10, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for email. On looking again, I found this, dated later than your article, and this, which acknowledges the source. I'm satisfied that there is no copyright infringement.
Finally, I must dispute your "COI". There is nonethis looks like COI to me. Having a COI doesn't mean that you cannot edit related articles, but you must declare that interest
Since there is no copyright violation, I'll shortly restore the text here so you can address the other issues before moving it back to article space. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
The only reason I mentioned COI is that your email said you had none, while your userpage said you did. The only relevance is that you need to be especially careful to take a neutral encyclopaedic tone and not use language that appears to promote your organisation Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:16, 3 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your draft article, User:Ronjamin/sandbox edit

Hello, Ronjamin. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "sandbox".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. – Fayenatic London 06:11, 21 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Better source request for File:Map Brentwood Borough Allegheny PA.png edit

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 23:18, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Arthur Ziegler.JPG edit

The file File:Arthur Ziegler.JPG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Uploaded for Arthur P. Ziegler, Jr.. No other use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 03:12, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
