Image copyright problem with Image:ManassasTraffic.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ManassasTraffic.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 15:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fredericksburg edit

Hello, Rob. I'm glad to see that CWPT is finally stepping up to do some Wikipedia related work. I have been bugging Jim Lighthizer for years to get someone to pay attention to it. A couple of comments about your additions to the Battle of Fredericksburg:

  1. Since the focus of your addition emphasizes the importance of the Slaughter Pen Farm, it would have been appropriate for you to edit the base article to include some reference to it as part of the battle description.
  2. The section on preservation efforts should ideally cover the preservation status of the entire battlefield--how many acres are already preserved, where are they, what important areas are still endangered, etc.?--not simply a rehash of a press release about current efforts to fund raise for the latest parcel.

Let me know what I can do to help, such as by modifying the battle maps already in the article. Hal Jespersen (talk) 01:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Repetitive edits edit

Hi there! I urge caution when applying identical links in a repetitive manner. I have no problem with the content of your additions, other than asking you to observe any conflicts of interest issues when editing pages or links which might be seen by others as intended to draw website hits. Thanks for your service and contributing to the pedia. BusterD (talk) 14:56, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

These external links are getting annoying edit

This sort of insertion is becoming a problem. None of us have a problem with you adding links to your worthy website to Civil War articles. Most editors would think of your website as a "reliable source." We welcome the addition of reliable information to the pedia. However, someone of your knowledge and interest could spend a few minutes more each time you have the impulse, and use some important fact from the article you're linking to prove an uncited assertion on the subject page. If you'd do that, you'd never see your links reverted. If you continue to just drive-by drop in links, you'll find the behavior viewed as a negative contribution, one I cautioned you about before. If you need any clarification, feel free to ask. BusterD (talk) 23:58, 28 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:AntietamFog.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:AntietamFog.JPG, which you've attributed to Michael Melford. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 13:31, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:CWPTParkDay.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:CWPTParkDay.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation of https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/thirty-years-memories (copyvio proved by higher resolution on source page) and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Matr1x-101 (Ping me when replying) {user page (@ commons) - talk} 14:16, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Image source problem with File:GettysburgCasino.JPG edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:GettysburgCasino.JPG.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:19, 1 October 2023 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Matr1x-101 (Ping me when replying) {user page (@ commons) - talk} 14:19, 1 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
