A belated welcome!
editHere's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Robert Swann. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may still benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:
If you don't already know, you should sign your posts on talk pages by using four tildes (~~~~) to insert your username and the date.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Again, welcome! Fettlemap (talk) 21:22, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, Fettlemap, for your gracious welcome and gentle push toward acquainting myself with the mechanics and conventions of talk pages. Although I created a Wikipedia account in 2010 or so (if memory serves), I made my first edits on January 22. Since then, I've proceeded intermittently and have answered my Wikipedia "how to" questions by researching on a "need to know" basis. I welcome any and all tips, especially on technical matters (like the four tildes). I enjoyed your engaging userpage. Obviously, we have interests in common. I'm confident that you would be able to answer many of my Wikipedia questions, the first of which is, "Are talk pages always written in the source editor?" My second question is, "How did you find me, and what led you to reach out?" Thanks again. Sincerely, Robert Swann (talk) 03:47, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- I have lots of pages on my watchlist and keep an eye out for vandalism or just poor editing. When I find some, I often look at the other edits by the same editor and add pages that seem to have frequent problems to my watchlist. My most common additions are cities, communities, and neighborhoods as there is a standard format and people are always adding content they think is true or funny to these pages. For some reason in February, I added Oak Cliff to my watchlist and when I saw your edits, I welcomed you as I often do to Good Faith editors. I edit in both visual and source on my phone and computer. On my phone, visual editing seems to be the default for talk page edits. I hadn't thought about it but on the computer, it does seem to be only available in source. When editing articles, I flip back and forth so I am comfortable in both modes.
