Good morning. I have written the below as my first proposed Wiki entry and would appreciate your feedback. You will see that Robin Callan is referred to in the following entry:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Orchard_(tea_room)

Robin Callan

Robin Keith Terrence Callan (03/10/1932–11/04/2014) was the creator of the Callan Method, a method of teaching English that is used in language schools in more than 35 countries.

Callan grew up in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England and in his early twenties went to teach English in Salerno, Italy. He found the teaching materials available at the time inefficient and boring, and he became interested in improving the way the language was taught. He remained in Italy and started to write his own books. He used these successfully in his own classes and, over the following ten years, gained practical experience and a reputation for teaching English quickly and effectively.

When he returned to England in the 1970s, he opened a school in Oxford Street, London. As the Callan Method became more popular, the school grew and moved to larger premises. Robin continued to write his Callan Method books, and today the Callan Method is used by hundreds of schools in many countries across the world to teach both English and Spanish. The head office of the Callan Method Organisation is based in London.

Philanthropy

In 1989 Callan bought Orchard House in Grantchester, on the outskirts of Cambridge, England and made this his home. The property was famous as a former residence of the young poet Rupert Brooke and adjacent to the Orchard Tea Gardens with its long-established Tea House. Three years later, Callan purchased the Orchard to prevent its being developed for housing. Of the Tea House he stated "It must not be touched. It is a shrine to intellect". The Tea Gardens had been frequented by famous figures throughout the 20th century and he was determined to preserve almost 100 years of tradition, stating: "I do not seek to make a profit, I only seek not to make a loss".

November 2020 edit

Hello Robert Hercules. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Robin Callan, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Robert Hercules. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Robert Hercules|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:21, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Justlettersandnumbers

I am not being paid directly or indirectly for the submission of this or any edits. Robert Hercules (talk) 19:57, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

You wrote here: "I confirm our approval to use on Wikipedia the submitted photograph of Robin Callan". How can you confirm that if you are not an employee of the organisation? If you are not, what do you mean by "our"? Oh, and permission on Commons to use an image "on Wikipedia" is never acceptable – either you release it under an appropriate licence such as CC BY-SA 4.0, or it it will be deleted. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:50, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, The message with the word "our" came from the MD of the Callan Method company, the image is one that the company publishes on their books. How do I release the image under an appropriate license? It's not clear how to to do this on Wiki? Thanks for your help. Robert Hercules (talk) 09:11, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

the various changes and comments to me about hte draft continue to raise the possibilility of COI. -you said you are not being paid--you never said whether or not you work for the company or are, perhaps, editing with a coi in its interest. DGG ( talk ) 05:58, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
