- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, S0091 (talk) 15:42, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Rob Afp. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.
Hi Rob, given your user name, might have a conflict of interest. If so, you need to make the appropriate declaration and avoid editing the affected articles directly. S0091 (talk) 16:43, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- In interest of full transparency. I admit to being a fan of Andy Falconer's musical work and given a "page" already existed. I thought I'd give him the recognition I think he deserves by fleshing it out a little bit.
- However thank you for raising the subject, and I will trek along to the "conflict of interest guideline" section and take a look.
- Thanks for all your help. Rob Afp (talk) 17:23, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Being a fan is fine but if you are affiliated with Afp or have any other affiliation with Falconer, then you have a conflict of interest. Having a COI is not a major issue as long as folks are transparent and stay within guidelines. S0091 (talk) 17:31, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

- You have claimed File:Andy Falconer.jpg as your own work--did you actually take this photo or otherwise own the rights to it? signed, Rosguill talk 18:51, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Rosguill,
- I emailed Andy on his official email address (as listed on his website https://www.afponline.eu/) to seek permission to use the photo and received his blessing. If you require further confirmation you can either contact Andy yourself on said email address (I've just found out I can't list it here), or I can forward you the email communication if you can provide a way to do this. As I guess I won't be able to include it here due to the email addresses. I hope this suffices. Rob Afp (talk) 20:20, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, in that case you should amend the rights statement for the photo to correspond to that explanation. Full instructions at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. signed, Rosguill talk 20:42, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info, and sorry for my mistake. I have found the Declaration Of Consent Template and passed it onto Andy with the request that he complete it and email it in to the appropriate address. You should receive it later on today.
- I hope this clears up the problem, and thanks again for your kind guidance. Rob Afp (talk) 08:54, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
