AWB

Hey, Not sure if you'll have got the message on skype..

MaxSem and i are using the "trunk" [1] for ApiEdit development, but have branched a WebBrowser branch, [2] which will stay as is. Could you preform any development on that please? You wouldn't have got a compile on trunk anyway..

I'll backport changes in the branch, to the trunk (as i have been doing with my changes, and have done with your rev 4681).

It sorta depends which level you did a checkout of the repo.. I have everything, including all tags and branches.. You may have just checked out the trunk.. And if so, you can switch to a branch using TortoiseSVN...

Give me a shout/email/whatever if you're stuck.

Human categories

Hi Rjwilmsi. I was wondering if you can help by adding human categories to articles corresponding to talk pages in Category:Biography articles without living parameter. Yobot could then add the missing parameter to the talk pages. -- Magioladitis (talk) 14:06, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Well, the logic in AWB would probably catch ~10% of these articles. However, I'd first need Reedy to provide a way for Parsers functions to get hold of the text of the article's talk page to look for the {{WPBiography}} template, otherwise AWB is not going to consider many of these articles as 'about a person' due to the lack of persondata/birth & death templates etc. Rjwilmsi 15:08, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

If you're keen on this raise a feature request for Reedy to implement logic such that a parsers function can get the text of an article's talk page. The above list could then be processed. Rjwilmsi 10:30, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Prekmurian dialect move Prekmurian language

I long to, that the article Prekmurian dialect so be it Prekmurian language. The prekmurian part of the Slovene language, but…

1. have literary standard language. In User:Viator slovenicus opinion this standard exaggeratedly ancient, in fact in 1945 yet the standard was to freshen. The Pray my borthers! (Molite bratje) close articulate.

2. numerous slovene books so appreciate, that prekmurščina (prekmurian language) autonomous slovene dialect, as it happens pokrajinski jezik (regional language).

3. one other slovene dialect have not such comprehensive literature and this was educational language in the schools of Sloven March (Prekmurje and Vendvidék) among the 16th century and 1919.

4. List of the books in prekmurian (1715-1919) and List of the books in prekmurian (1920-1945). In József Klekl the great political and cultural leader of the Prekmurje opinion, the Prekmurian invaluable language, this is the "bridge among the Slovene and Serbo-Croatian languages."

Using AWB to defaultsort

Hi. I have a big list of politicians to blue link, located at List of German Christian Democratic Union politicians. i was wondering if I generated them at pace you would be able to clean up after me and default sort them in the categories by surname, first name and Category:living people or not. Hokay that list should be finished tomorrow, i've started a load more today. I have several parties to transfer so your cleanup tasks are greatly needed (and appreciated). One thing though have you any idea if you can programme List of Social Democratic Party of Germany politicians to be wiki linked and the bullets placed back against the margins? Praenomen article

Hello, Rjwilmsi. I noticed that a good portion of the information used in the Wiki article titled "Praenomen" was taken from my article here: http://www.unrv.com/culture/roman-naming-practices.php

One reason (of many) that I know that this information was taken from my article, is because the percentages cited for the most common male praenomina (98% and 59%) are percentages that I worked out, myself, from available compilations.

I would be most grateful if you would include my article in the Reference List, as I have not been able to figure out how to edit the Reference List. I don't know how to contact whoever it was who was responsible for that article. I found you on the history page for that article, so I thought you might be able to help. This is very frustrating, because my work has been lifted without me being credited. Could you please direct me to whomever it is that I should complain to regarding the taking of other people's work for Wiki articles, and not crediting the original authors? Thank you. AWB TODO Comments

Hi Rob, ClickRick has been going through to improve some of the AWB code (so far made a 19% decrease in processing time).

He has added some comments like "//TODO: Give these regexes,...". Any chance when you get some time, you could rename them to something that is more meaningful? (If you can't, dont worry about it too much)

Hmm yes, making regexes compiled etc. (I'd probably have done that myself except MaxSem warned me off it, so I've no understanding of when compiled regexes are appropriate). I'll action that TODO in the next few days. Rjwilmsi 08:08, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

If declared in the body (ie in the class rather than a method), chances are a regex IS going to be reused, and 99.9% of the time, making it compiled will decrease the execution time (but does increase setup time slightly). Declaring them in a method body if they have to be done dynamically, is only appropriate to mark them compiled in there if you going to use it multiple times. Chances are you probably wont, so its not worth the extra setup time, and therefore, slightly extended execution time is usually fine. There are quite a few TODO's, i did make a start on one of them. I've done some structured tests to show the comparative timings. As my base test, I took the article text from Alexandria, using WikiFunctions.WikiRegexes.NestedTemplates, and ran .Matches(text) against it 100,000 times, first using new Regex(str) each time, which took 9.297 seconds, then new Regex(str, Compiled) each time, which took 1:02.625, and finally using the compiled version directly, which took 0.031 seconds. From this I'd say that there's something like a 6× overhead to compiling, but a saving of better than 99% per execution of it once it has been compiled. Other regexes will vary, of course, and the use of the Regex.Matches static method has quite a marked impact, but judicious use of pre-compiled regexes is, as Reedy has said, definitely beneficial.
