New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Rich Smith,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

King City redirect

Oops, looks like I forgot about the "if you are requesting multiple redirects to the same target, enclose each of them individually in [[]]" bit in request instructions, resulting in you creating a single redirect at

King City (comic), King City (comics)

instead of the pair of redirects at

King City (comic)
King City (comics)

I'd intended. My bad; kindly fix at your convenience.

Hi, is this a misplaced talk page? There are two other redirects with similar spellings, redirecting to Lonnie Johnson, so I wasn't sure where to move this one, thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 11:27, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

@Wikishovel: Yea, not sure what happened there. Think the script I use to review AFC/R requests didn't know how to handle that... anyway, I've CSD' it and it was deleted. Thanks for letting me know - RichT|C|E-Mail 18:13, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Help

I'm trying to understand why an edit I made was reverted. I am a newbie to wiki editing and have only done a few (more than ten). the page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Earls and I and Cassone. I'm a former member of the group and tried to post a picture of us (Larry Chance just passed away a couple of weeks ago.) How do I correct the revert? Thanks Cassone (talk) 18:26, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

@Cassone: ClueBot works by checking edits though its Artificial Neural Network, you may call it an AI of sorts. You edit looked to it as vandalism, this would potenally be due to a list of things, age of account, edits, amount of text added/deleted, references added/deleted etc. ClueBot will not revert the same page twice in 24 hours, so you can made the edit again.
HOWEVER... you should not be editing The Earls, you have a conflict of interest which not only should be disclosed, but also you should make edit requests using the Edit Request Wizard instead of editing the article directly.

RichBot: Removing invalid templates from drafts failure

RichBot's task "Removing invalid templates from drafts" failed to run per the configuration specified at Wikipedia:Bot activity monitor/Configurations. Detected only 0 edits in the last 1 day, whereas at least 1 was expected. If/when the issue is fixed, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. When that is done, this notice will be reposted if the bot task is still broken or is re-broken. If your bot is behaving as expected, then you may want to modify the task configuration instead. Or to unsubscribe from bot failure notifications, remove the |notify= parameter from the {{/task}} template. Thanks! – SDZeroBot (talk) 20:20, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
