Speedy deletion nomination of Mark Sheppeard

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Mark Sheppeard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Hairhorn (talk) 12:39, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Writing about yourself

edit

  You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Hairhorn (talk) 12:39, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. 2 says you, says two 22:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Mark sheppeard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.   Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Mark sheppeard. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. ttonyb (talk) 04:53, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome

edit

Hello, Rev.mark82, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created was Mark Sheppeard, which appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself has been or will shortly be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, but if you want to use the content from it, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! RJaguar3 | u | t 01:47, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:Scan Pic0002.jpg missing description details

edit
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Scan Pic0002.jpg is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:50, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Rev.mark82. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. You seem to be here to promote yourself: adding articles about yourself and your radio program and links or entries to the same in lists. Walter Görlitz (talk) 13:58, 4 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

May 2017

edit

  Hello, I'm Walter Görlitz. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to List of Christian preachers have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia.
All previous efforts at adding an article for yourself has failed. There are guidelines for biographies and notability. Please read them. Also, read WP:WTAF before you add yourself elsewhere. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:59, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Hello. Your recent edit to List of Christian preachers appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. Home Lander (talk) 23:59, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

You don't seem to get it. Wikipedia is not a place you can come to promote yourself, your radio show, your ministry or other things associated with you (see WP:NOTPROMOTION and WP:NOTHOSTING). It is a place that has articles about notable subjects, but that notability must be demonstrated for an article to exist. (see Wikipedia:Notability, Wikipedia:Notability (people) and WP:CLERGY) Editors do not get to come along and add links to articles that don't exist and then expect to argue that the articles should exist because of all of the links. Editors also should not add items that are not notable to lists. There are a few sets of rules that govern lists. I won't bore you with them here, but I will say that if all of the entries in a list have articles and you try to add one that doesn't have an article, you can be sure that the item will be deleted. If you persist in self-promotion like this, expect to have this account permanently blocked. Having an account blocked also means you are blocked. You should not expect to edit without using an account or by setting up another account because when you return to the same pattern of editing, you will be discovered and the new accounts will be blocked (see WP:BLOCK EVASION, Wikipedia:Sock puppetry, WP:DUCK) In short, you're digging a hole for yourself, setting a bad example in the process, and if you continue, you could cause further problems for yourself in the future.

If you have any questions, please ask them here by using the {{ping}} or {{helpme}} templates. You use the former to contact someone directly and the second to request help from a group of volunteers. Click on those links to read how to use them. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:13, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

An explanation of what's going on

edit

Hi, I'm an administrator. That means I can block users, like you were asking about here

You have been trying to write about yourself. Wikipedia does not encourage that because we're not here for people to promote themselves (or others) and we discourage anyone from editing with a conflict of interest.

We also require new articles to cite multiple professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are not affiliated with the subject but still specifically about it. Your attempted articles did not cite any sources.

We ask users to assume that other users are acting in good faith where possible. We've even created a lot of template messages that were specifically crafted to be non-offensive to enable rapid and polite communication. With the exception of the paragraph starting with "you don't seem to get it," Walter Gorlitz has left many of these on your page because you haven't been paying attention and have just been doing whatever you wanted without concern for whether or not that works with our policies.

Now, if I'm going to block either of you two, it's not going to be him.

Stop using the site to promote yourself. Ian.thomson (talk) 00:39, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Looking over your edit history, I'm seeing plenty of self-promotion and nothing that actually helps the site, such that I could have blocked you already. If your next edit isn't something that helps the site, I'm going to have to conclude that you're not here to build the encyclopedia. There are a variety of ways you can help the site, such as fixing typos or grammar issues, adding new content that cites a professionally published mainstream academic source (we do not accept original research), reverting vandalism... Complaining about Walter (or me) does not qualify as helping. Asking questions is usually fine but in your case you should avoid asking any questions about how to write an article about yourself (again, you need to show that you're here to help, not here to glorify yourself). Ian.thomson (talk) 00:48, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Okay I understand the former. But how is adding a notable worthy radio station that is connected to one of the largest Christian radio stations not applicable?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rev.mark82 (talkcontribs)

Do not put new messages in the middle of other messages as it gets confusing.
Like I said, new articles have to cite multiple professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are not affiliated with the subject but still specifically about it. Your attempted articles did not cite any sources. If there are no sources, then it is not notable.
Last chance, find something to do besides complain about Walter or your business. Ian.thomson (talk) 00:51, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I won't bother you. I appreciate explanation. And, I didn't complain about you. I don't need your personal derogatory either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rev.mark82 (talkcontribs) 01:30, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

A further reminder about the need for a signature

edit

  Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:50, 6 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
