Please do not move articles by copy-paste

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Hey Man, Nice Shot a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. It appears that you tried to give Talk:Hey Man, Nice Shot a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. Van Halen World Vacation Tour

Here's why I made the changes I did.

1. Removing links to well-known locations, such as New York City, Los Angeles. (see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#What_generally_should_not_be_linked).
2. Removing unnecessary capitalisation (see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Capital_letters#Headings.2C_headers.2C_and_captions
3. Fixing (simplifying) links to venues:

The names of venues tend to change because of sponsorship deals with naming rights. A redirect provides a simple way to ensure that all links to an old name will go to the article under the current name. Piping an old name to the current name is pointless because if the name changes again, as it surely will when the current sponsorship deal comes to an end, the piped name will itself become a redirect and the already trivial benefit of a direct link will be lost.

Here are some relevant extracts from guides to best practice in piping and redirects:

1. From Wikipedia:Piped_link#When_not_to_use:

• It is generally not good practice to pipe links simply to avoid redirects. The number of links to a redirect page can be a useful gauge of when it would be helpful to spin off a subtopic of an article into its own page.
• Introducing unnecessary invisible text makes the article more difficult to read in page source form.
• Non-piped links make better use of the "what links here" tool, making it easier to track how articles are linked and helping with large-scale changes to links.

1. From Wikipedia:Redirect#Do_not_.22fix.22_links_to_redirects_that_are_not_broken:

• There is usually nothing wrong with linking to redirects to articles. Some editors are tempted, upon finding a link to a redirect page, to bypass the redirect and point the link directly at the target page. While there are a limited number of cases where this is beneficial, there is otherwise no good reason to pipe links solely to avoid redirects. Doing so is generally an unhelpful, time-wasting exercise that can actually be detrimental. It is almost never helpful to replace [[redirect]] with [[target|redirect]].

None of my additions are violations. they are supported by discogs, allmusic, the artist's page, the artist's website, etc. - and in most cases, in the referenced article. Do you want extra references on top of the genres? Why don't you put the effort into updating the album article instead? Why support less information on the wiki instead of more/accurate information? Discogs is user-generated and not reliable per WP:SPS and WP:ALBUMAVOID. Same with the AllMusic sidebar—don't use it per WP:ALBUMAVOID. The infobox on an artist's article doesn't necessarily describe the sound of one particular album—a rock band could do a blues album or a really poppy album. It isn't necessarily accurate for all of their releases. We also prefer critics describing an album's sound over the artist's own description, as the artist is seen as having a biased view of their own sound. Notice how there aren't many artist descriptions ("I think my album is industrial rock, so that's what it is") sourced in album infoboxes? There are reasons for that. Also, I don't have to put in the effort for you wanting to add information to Wikipedia—see WP:BURDEN. I did look on the artists' own and the album articles—that's what I'm saying. The genres that are there still weren't supporting what you were putting on List of 2017 albums. Therefore it's WP:SUBJECTIVE and not "accurate". Ss112 06:43, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
