Advocacy and Contributions

edit

Beyond electoral politics, Fairoz Khan has been a vocal advocate for various causes in Jammu and Kashmir. He successfully campaigned for 5% Pahari reservation for Chenab Valley residents, advocated for the establishment of a hilly university campus at Ramban, and organized the Bharat Jodo rally in Ramban to promote national unity. Khan has also participated in numerous protests, highlighting local issues and community concerns. He was elected college president in 2006 and subsequently, the district president in 2008. Post this, he became part of the NSUI and began working for the party at the national level. “There is a big gap in leadership in the country and the youth feel alienated from politicians. There is a lacuna that the NSUI will fill by going to every district in every state,” Khan told The Indian Express. Khan has been critical of the administration's reliance on social media, advocating for more direct community engagement and effective governance strategies.Fairoz Khan blamed the unplanned work on the four-lane highway project for the frequent closure of the highway resulting in untold sufferings to the commuters travelling between the twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu.Khan claimed that the construction companies have sublet the work to contractors who have neither experience nor the qualified workforce for the job, while the administration is unmoved."Villages are sinking, houses have developed cracks and deforestation has taken place at a large scale," he said, adding "We want development but not at the cost of people's lives."[11]. He demanded that school, college and the government authorities to facilitate the students with special buses. He also demanded that SRTC should start a special bus in the morning & evening connecting various School & colleges from the respective bus stands. He added that a parent-teacher association should be made to facilitate this. Fairoz Khan said he got this data from social media that Government-run schools in Ramban district are facing an acute shortage of teaching staff as 586 posts of principals, lecturers, headmasters and teachers are vacant whereas the sanctioned strength is 2,073. This is now a day today affair why LG Govt is not announcing new posts, so that vacant posts can be filled and some educated youth will get employed.[12]. Fairoz Khan urged the concerned departments to conduct a comprehensive study of the causes of the disaster, emphasizing their belief that it is a result of man-made activities by dumping of muck into river beds of Chenab and river changed direction and also because no culvert was there on Gool- Sangaldan road.[13] Today hundreds of youth activists Under the leadership of Working President Youth Congress Fairoz Khan took out a rally in support of Bharat Jodo Yatra. white addressing the Rally said Rahul Gandhi ji is giving a new alternative in Politics and instead of the politics of hatred he is spreading the message of Love. The unemployment, inflation, and mudrer of democracy by suppressing the voice of people, leaders and exploring the institutions. The Rahul Gandhi Bharat Jodo Yatra will receive a grand welcome in Jammu & Kashmir and youth and people of Ramban will join in large numbers from Lakhanpur to srinagar. Khan added that its main objective of Bharat Jodo Yatra is to fight against the politics of “fear, bigotry and prejudice” and the economics of livelihood destruction, increasing unemployment and growing inequalities. This Yatra is an ongoing mass movement and we will not stop till this country is free from all these problems. He said that the government is attacking the fundamentals of India and the society is being “divided by hate”. He said that India progressed due to Congress’ approach of inclusion and taking everyone along. He added that The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started from Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7 and will reach Lakhanpur on the third week of January and the Yatra will end in Srinagar. We all are enthusiastic and ready to welcome this historic Yatra.[14]. Need to give special attention to Chanderbhaga region. He said that the whole Chenab valley has become prone to earthquakes and has turned into a seismic zone. This is really a serious issue and the lives of millions of residents of these three districts, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, is at stake. Khan further pointed out that one of the reasons for the frequent earthquakes is the pressure of water collected in artificial lakes due to the construction of dams in the region. He said Salal, Baglihar and Dulhasti dams are located in the region along with many smaller one also which has created a reservoir induced seismicity, and this has resulted in frequent earthquakes in the region. He demanded that Govt must access the loss caused to people.[15]
