your article about Barbara LaFitte

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Barbara LaFitte article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the "Help Desk". You can also leave a message on my talk page. FreplySpang 23:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

more about Barbara LaFitte

edit

Hi Preston, thanks for responding. The problem is not with the content, but with the actual wording. It's a big problem for us to republish material that appears elsewhere. This may seem picky, but it's something we need to do to protect ourselves legally. Honestly, the simplest thing to do would be to write a new article from scratch. That way, you could also rework it into more of a Wikipedia style - our Guide to your first article has some suggestions about that. In order to republish the existing bio on Wikipedia, you would need to do two things:

  1. Release it under a free license, the GFDL. This means that the article can be redistributed freely and modified freely by anyone for any purpose, including commercial purposes.
  2. Verify that you are in fact the author. I am sure that you are telling the truth, but again for legal reasons we need more than that.

If you want to do this, there is a specific email you need to send to the copyright administrators at Wikipedia. You can find it at WP:CONSENT. Please don't do this lightly; it does have binding effects.

Even if you do this, the article will still be changed by others. It might even be deleted if a consensus decided that Ms. LaFitte didn't meet our requirements for article subjects.

I would be happy to help you further, but I am logging off for the night. You can get help more quickly by leaving a question at the Wikipedia:Help desk, or by entering {{helpme}} (the curly braces and the word helpme) on **this page**.
