advice

As reviewing administrator, let me ry to give you some more specific help.

  1. It would help if you can find a shorter title. I would suggest just using the name of the society--National organizations are often notable. But do this only if you can find references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases.
  2. Otherwise, write it on the general subject, Veterinary clincial pathology. do not emphasize the organization, but you can include it as an external link.
    1. When you do this, write it in paragraph format, using full sentences. Use a minimal number of short headings.
    2. Say what the field is and what it does. Don't say how important it is. The information will show it.

If you want me to look at the article when done, or if you want some additional assistance, let me know on my talk p; I tend to specialize in this sort of article. DGG ( talk ) 04:34, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

going forward

btw, my uncle , who greatly influenced me towards a scientific career, was a veterinary pharmacologist.

if you re going to write the article primarily about the specialty, it needs to be integrated into an existing pattern of article  The first step is to improve the general article, veterinary pathology, and write this as a specialized derivative of it: See WP:Summary style for the general idea. What that main article needs is references,. The references should come not from specialized works, but from a combination of standard general textbooks, and whatever you can find that is likely to be available to non-specialists. By all means use specialized journals also, but give the references to the online versions, and, if they are not open access, which they probably won't be, include in the footnote a one or two sentence quotation to illustrate your point. The most easily accessible source in this subject area is Merck Veterinary Manual--you may want to use it when possible.

After you've fixed that one up, then expand that part as your article. For those who may have come there directly, first explain the different between clinical and anatomical pathology as subject fields--the differences are to some extent a term of art, and need to be explained. Then, talk about the general principles of the field as a subject, making as many links as possible to specialized articles in Wikipedia. Then talk about it as a profession. Here you will have to divide it according to the different countries. What you wrote applies to the US, and even if you cannot write about it anywhere else in the world, the section heading should make that clear. (perhaps you will be able to at least say a sentence or two about Canada.) The references will duplicate to some extent with the general article, but try to add a few more specific one also.

Don't write down to the audience. What you've written sounds a little too much like the sort of explanatory booklet one finds in a professional's office. WP is written for an adult audience (the actual level we aim at is the first two years of college). Give some specific about the profession. How many such professionals are there? What are the numbers that work in the different fields of practice? Is there information on annual earnings?

And some matters of style.

  1. Do not say something like: "Veterinary pathology Wikipedia page" Rather, link to the page like this: [[Veterinary pathology]]; which will appear as Veterinary pathology.
  2. Do not indent. The subheadings are sufficient.
  3. Use as few capitals as possible.
  4. Spell out all journal names in full in the references.

Let me know when to look at it again. DGG ( talk ) 23:21, 1 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
