Hi Stewart, There is no doubt now as to whether User:Greenock125 is reading his talkpage or not, as he is deleting comments on his talkpage that he does not like; and it strongly appears that none of the images are his. The Geograph ones that I have looked at do have Creative Commons Licenses; and they appear to be correctly attributed in wikipedia to the photographer(s). Some are from Wiki Commons; and others appear to be from RAILSCOT and these are not covered by Creative Commons Licenses. A pity, Greenock125 appeared to be doing a good job, apart from not understanding copyright licensing; now I'm having difficultly working out why he is so insular. I see that User:Signalhead is also keeping an eye on Greenock125.Pyrotec (talk) 20:55, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

You know, I have a sneaking suspicion that User:Greenock125 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) might be yet another account of our friend 'Farlack'. Consider the evidence:

1. Username ends with a number.
2. Obviously based in Scotland.
3. Obsessed with providing photographs for railway station articles / gets angry when such photographs are removed.
4. Failure to use the 'preview' button.
5. Messes up templates.
6. Blanks or doesn't respond to warnings on talk page.

Just checked up, and User:Mecu is happy with the revised licensing info on the Geograph images uploaded recently.[1] While the template's a good idea and more informative, as long as the license is spelt out that appears to be ok. The RailScot images don't seem to have a suitable license, but I notice that for Bogston, Greenock125 found a Geograph photo outside the station rather than using the RailScot image showing the tracks. ..dave souza, talk 23:49, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Highland Railway Review

• Request to Dreamer84, Pyrotec and Simply south (on 29/30 December 2007)

I think we now have a complete set of articles for the Highland Railway. Some are still stub articles, but this is a milestone completed. This evening I have trawled through all the articles and templates. One thing I started doing recently is adding sources to the templates.

My working table of lines that became part of the Highland Railway will help.

There are also other associated lines (worked by the Highland Railway). This second table also includes the Cromarty and Dingwall Light Railway for completeness.

I have also adjusted the Template:Historical Scottish railway companies to reflect the worked by companies.

Your review of this would be much appreciated.

The CR, G&SWR and NBR will take quite a bit longer to reach the same state. I will see if I can make major inroads into the GNoSR lines over the remainder of the holiday period.

Hey, sorry for the late reply not been on here much lately. Don't really have much more to add beyond what Pyrotec and Simply south have said, its all good work. My only related concern is that Template:Historical Scottish railway companies is perhaps starting to look a little bloated. Not sure what the answer would be, aside from splitting them into seperate templates for each 'big' company, but then the new categories such as [[Category:Glasgow and South Western Railway]] cover that pretty well. --Dreamer84 (talk) 11:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

OK. It's not an area I know well, but I have a copy (unopened) of Vallance (4th Ed, 1985)) and Heap & van Riemsdijk, so I'll work my way through them. I'm not really sure what to give as a review. Here is a starter. It would be good if the History sections in many were not just given as chrnological lists and there was more text and expansion on these points. It may be good to also reference the books in the text as well as giving them at the end. Also, don't just use Railscot as a source, use others as well. Maybe on the lines talk about current and future uses, if any.

It looks good that you've compiled all\most of the branches.

Thanks for this - now the stub articles are in place I hope this will act as a catalyst (not just for myself, but others) to improve the articles (especially the history sections). One thing I have found is that RAILSCOT is not 100% accurate; however Jowett does have its own errors with junctions / lines not always shown.

Looking at a fellow project, i have found a cite template which may be good {{cite book}} which has all the usual parameters. If not, then use the harvard system. Simply south (talk) 21:14, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Images of rail stations

Any chance that you could be able to photograph rail stations in the Glasgow/West of Scotland region ?

This would make Wiki entries for these stations more complete.

Historical rail starts/inserts

Hey Stewart. I noticed while doing a revert on Newton (South Lanarkshire) railway station that you altered the layout of the Historical rail boxes, specifically removing the 'Caledonian Railway' tag from all but one of the lines, and for the remaining one swapping it round so 'Hamilton Branch' is the bigger text rather than CR. Just wondering if there was a reason for this change? I'm not really bothered which way round they go, but I do think we should keep them all the same. Up until now I'd always been doing mine like this:

Preceding station	Historical railways			Following station
Brackenhills Line and station closed		Caledonian Railway  Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway		Lugton High Line and station closed
Auchenmade Line and station closed		Caledonian Railway  Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway

Thanks for the heads-up about User:ScotRail170indasun. Didn't seem to make any more edits, but it's essentially self-confessed and in a spirit of compromise I've indefblocked the account. Saw you wondering what this did (as I once did), take it like me you're using IE? In Firefox the reflist template displays the reference list in columns, so in the above case there would be three columns. Quite handy for pages with a lot of citations as it takes up less space on the page. Not much use for IE users though. --Dreamer84 (talk) 23:42, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

I wasn't really sure whether to post this here or on my page. The railway stations which are served by First ScotRail can have the stations served by First ScotRail category, just SPT railway stations is not a sub-cat as explained before. Simply south (talk) 23:27, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Kilbarchan Loop Line

You have changed the name of this article without providing a reference for the name change. It would be helpful if you could do this as I have never heard it refered to as Dalry and North Johnstone Line whilst Kilbarchan Loop (and Lochwinnoch Loop to a lessor extent) are terminology I have heard of. --Stewart ^(talk) 16:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

More .... WAC Smith; Ayrshire's Last Days of Steam (2001) ISBN 1-8403-3151-8 refers to the line as the North Johnstone Line. Also why have you changed the article name of the Lochwinnoch Station on this line? --Stewart ^(talk) 17:01, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

See the talk page for my reasons. I shouldn't have been as hasty with the change I admit. As for the Lochwinnoch page, I had never liked the "(second)" tag even when I originally wrote it, but couldn't think of an alternative. I am biased as I used to live in Kilbarchan at the time the line was lifted (and the bricking up of the station ramps - reopened when the cycle route was established). The pictures you have taken today are great. I had not realised that the bridge at the end of Castle Semple station have been re-built with a pipe. --Stewart ^(talk) 17:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I was surprised myself. The original bridge is still there, but it appears to have been filled in with the pipe stuck through the middle of it, quite bizarre. I had hoped to get some photos of the remains of Brownhill Junction at Dalry, unfortunately couldn't get close enough without walking through the middle of a farm yard, so left it for another day. --- Dreamer ⁸⁴ 17:27, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Heritage railway co-ordinates

Hi - I've re-instated the coordinates in the heritage railway infobox. I see your point that for some lines they don't make sense, but the reason I added it was following a discussion at Talk:Talyllyn Railway. Basically, there was disagreement whether there should be coordinates in the article or not, and a compromise was reached that they should be used, provided it was clear from the infobox whiat it applied to. For the Talyllyn, the terminus at Tywyn is an obvious coordinate for the article. The coordsinate may also be useful for small preservation schemes with only one station.
