Nousernamesleft

Hi, Pedro, thanks for voting in my RfA, which passed with 47 supports (I hoped for a perfect square, but two away is close enough!), 3 opposes (the first odd prime), and 0 neutrals. I'm glad the community has decided to trust me with the mop and bucket (the flamethrower isn't supported). Of course, special thanks goes to my nominators Auawise and that one guy who buried stuff (not that the thanks I give to the you isn't special!). If you ever need a hand with something, or just want to say hello, tough feel free to drop a line! Best wishes, Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 23:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This doesn't even vaguely resemble a mop, but I couldn't find a picture of one.

Best wishes to you too! Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 23:50, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh noes! It more thankspam!

Well there you go - chalk up another successful RfA nom! Many thanks Pedro, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared, thanks I'm sure in great part to your eloquent nomination! I'll be sure and come back for advice as and when necessary. See you at WP:AIV! Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 07:04, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Coaching

Ah, thank you sir. I have made my reply at the appropriate page. BTW, I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but I did sign up for admin coaching a few weeks back before your proposal, should this be made "official" on that page? Wisdom89 (T / C) 14:56, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep - may as well put yourself down as "found a coach" Pedro :  Chat  15:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

RFA

Thanks for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully with 40 supports, 13 opposes, and 4 neutrals. For those of you who supported my RFA, I greatly appreciate it. For those who did not, I'm also thankful for your constructive criticism. If you need some advice or have some pointers for me, you know where to reach me! A special thank you to Majorly for all his time and effort he has placed in my nomination. Once again, thank you all for your helpful comments. Now off to new admin school! User talk:150.134.10.163

Just FYI, redirecting Cleveland Browns (an NFL football team) to Cleveland steamer (a sex act) is not exactly good faith editing (in my opinion). However, the user seems to have stopped. --NeilN talkcontribs 16:10, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

NeilN, my apologies - I didn't check the article on Cleveland Steamer (for which I'm quite glad!) and assumed that the edit summaries were genuine and good faith. However as you say the IP has stopped and three bad edits would be borderline blockable - although you very much did the right thing in going to WP:AIV. Thank you for your help, and again my apologies for not researching further. Pedro :  Chat  16:13, 22 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

User talk:--HB Edit (talk) 21:50, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

First of all, I'm not sure how to use user talk. I hope I'm putting this in the right place. Second, I don't know where your reply will be.

I am having a problem with copyright. I have a website to spread info about a water trail. One way to spread the info is to put it on Wikipedia. So... I don't mind that the info is the same on the website as it is on Wikipedia.

Bureaucratship

Following the discussion on User talk:WJBscribe regarding his close ^demon's RfA the lack of currently active bureaucrats came up. After thinking about this, I reflected that there was no one in the community who I think would be more effective in the role than you. As such, I would encourage you to consider it. I can think of few that have a better understanding of the RfA process and I also think you have a keen eye for consensus. I know this encouragement is somewhat awkward as anyone can nominate themselves at any time, but I figured I would throw it out there for you to consider in case you haven't already. Of course, I also understand the responsibility that goes with the position as well as the hassle that going through RfB could be. I just figured I should let you know my feelings on the situation, though. Cheers, SorryGuy  Talk  07:41, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Guy, you flatter me! However for the moment I have no intention of seeking additional tools. Although I am (far too!) active at RfA it seems that there is presently no great need for further input (although I recognise the debate you highlighted above). In addition I have had very little experience with Changing Usernames, which strikes me as being an area where help is allways welcomed. In addition I have only been an admin for six months. Again, you are very kind in mentioning your thoughts to me, but at present I feel I serve Wikipedia best with my admin tools. Finally I think there are plenty of very respected editors out there who would sooner be up before Arbcom than see me as a 'crat! Never say never though :) !Pedro :  Chat  14:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I also think Pedro would be a good choice.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 14:10, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are you sure you won't reconsider, Pedro? The ^demon RfA shows that we need more 'crats -- and I can't think of a better person than you. Majoreditor (talk) 18:07, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am humbled by these kind comments, I really am. However I feel that now would be poor timing. I do not feel that I am sufficently competent in either the renaming or usurption processs, nor have I spent any time at WP:BAG. Although I feel fully confident to judge consensus at RfA I think a "single issue candidate" :) is not good enough. And there is still much more I can add to the project through my admin tools. Again, however, these comments are kind, generous and I'm not above admitting make me rather pleased!! Thank you! Pedro :  Chat  18:15, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request

Pedro, you recently granted me roll back privileges. The fact is I actually need your help with a completely different matter now. A while ago I uploaded images that are in the public domain because they are older than the 1923 mark. The local historical society just left a message on my talk page saying that I infringed their copyright and they want them out of the article. I wrote back on their talk page explaining the situation and how they actually are in the public domain, but I elected to take them out of the article anyways to eliminate any bad feelings. I was wondering if you could delete the images so then they are completely out of wikipedia? The images are Image:Willardsquare.JPG and Image:Lyricmusictheater.JPG. Let me know if you are able to help. Thanks --Rigby27 (talk) 18:33, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

You really should take another look. User:Liddelll and User:Mark55lid have both been indefinitely blocked for constantly attempting to insert articles about Roger Garth, an imaginary Italian supermodel who supposedly debuted on the Mickey Mouse club. Not only did this IP do two edits about Roger Garth today, nearly every edit it has made since July, 2007 has been an insertion of Roger Garth. The only exceptions have been two trivial edits of articles about Italian supermodels, where he cleaned up around an edit that had inserted Roger Garth.Kww (talk) 11:26, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree about this problems, but IP's are never indef. blocked, and as there has been no activity from the IP in several hours the block would be punitive not preventative. If the IP starts over again please take it back to WP:AIV but at present it would not seem to be preventative. Sorry. I'm likely to be off-line now for several hours, so if you need a review of this by another admin please feel free to take it up at WP:ANI. Pedro :  Chat  11:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy Deletion of Rica24

Hi Pedro, I am the writer of 'Rica24', which you have deleted twice in the last 24 hours. I'm not complaining, really. I understand why you deleted it the first time, but when I completely re-wrote the page, I was as (for lack of a better word) 'vague' as possible on what the company provides. It is a free service - I'm not trying to gain profit here, I simply want to put in writing that it does exists and why it exists. I am writing you now to ask why Rica24 was deleted (the second time) and what I can do to keep it on Wikipedia. I've researched other companies of this sort on Wikipedia to find out exactly how to write the article without stepping over the 'blatant advertising' line. These companies I've found go way further into detail than I have. This is why I'm not understanding the reason. I know you are a busy man (with a beautiful daughter, btw!), so I await your reply most patiently. Thanks - DonnaJYC (talk) 21:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and thanks for replying. Just one note before I begin - that's my SON!!! Anyhow, the problem with the article is mainly that it doen't cite reliable sources that are third party - i.e. when I deleted it all the references were just back to the website itself. I actually only deleted it once - when you re-created it another admin deleted it as well. Please check out our policies on notability as well - i.e. why the subject is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia. It might help you if I recreate the article in a sandbox in your user space, so you can work on third party sources and establishing notability. Would you like me to do that for you? Pedro :  Chat  21:20, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Pedro and thanks so much for your fast reply. So sorry for the mistake by the way, I did read the notation under the picture and was aware that it was your son, but started thinking of my own daughter - forgive me - you have a beautiful SON!! As for the post, thank you for your explanation. I do understand the problem now. I also appreciate your willingness to help, but I'm afraid there are not going to be notable reference sources at this time, outside of the actual web site. I think you hit the nail on the head - Rica24 is not yet notable enough for inclusion. I really appreciate your help and perhaps I can add Rica24 at a later date, once the site is more widely known. Thanks again, Pedro! DonnaJYC (talk) 22:00, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
You are more than welcome. I'm sorry I can't help more at the moment regarding Rica24 but I hope that you can still enjoy Wikipedia! It's a great website, a fun community, and a fantastic feeling to be able to help build the 9th (nearly 8th!) most popular website in the world! Again, thank you for your contributions so far, and if I can help on anything else let me know. That's what I'm here for! Pedro :  Chat  22:10, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again Pedro, I really appreciate all of your guidance, and I must admit, "I Love Wikipedia!" I use it almost on a daily basis and have gained so much knowledge from it. Not just petty knowledge, but real life-altering knowledge! If it weren't for Wikipedia, I would not be determined to visit the Iguazu Falls sometime in my life (all 275 waterfalls of it *L*). They are truly breath-taking. I honesty don't know what I would do without Wikipedia. Anyways, since we're getting off into idle chatter at this point, you may delete this entire string of posting any time you wish. I'm glad to have met you over Wikipedia and if I ever need assistance in the future, I know who to contact! DonnaJYC (talk) 20:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Assistance

Yes, I'm sure comments like: "I just had it out with AeronM and reverted his recent edits. I'd much rather train a mule or a basset hound." --Curtis Clark (talk) 06:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC) were meant in good faith(!) But I take your meaning. Thanks for the response. Things seem to have settled down a bit. --AeronM (talk) 23:28, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm very glad things are getting easier. I am sure you understand that some editors can get very heated in their contributions. I have no comment at all against Curtis Clark- of course that comment as an isolated incident was not positive, but I also believe that s/he is a very positive contributor here overall and that needs to be seriously weighed in. As I say, I'd be happy to help you, should you need it, and trust you will find the Wikipedia experience positive in the future. I think it important to remember that, in general (i.e. excluding blatant vandaism), we are all here of a common goal and the in-fighting helps no-one. 52 Pickup's RfA

Hey there Pedro, I THINK you are still opposing his RfA, but the most recent edit has made it so your vote isn't registering. If you are still opposing it, you might want to fix it. I generally won't "fix" !votes on RfA's as you may have made the "counter" skip your !vote on purpose.Balloonman (talk) 17:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Balloonman - I moved to neutral. For some reason indenting the numbered list wasn'tworking so I un-numbered (is that a word??) my original oppose and subsequent comments. Numbering looks okay to me now. I'll check the bots are getting it though. Pedro :  Chat  19:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lsonline

You might want to compare the edit history of this account to that of Lovesugar (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Names are similar as well ... that's the only reason I went straight to AIV, it smells of a sock. Blueboy96 22:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd be very suprised if they wern't - but just one edit and then inactive for half an hour? Can't really see that a block would be justified under policy. I'll keep a check on their edits, and if they do start heavy spamming they'll be blocked. Pedro :  Chat  22:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, here's another sock: Lsonline1 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Blueboy96 22:25, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd take it to WP:SSP. Note that the above has started (a sort) of conversation on the talk page, and has been warned for adding spam links. Clearly some sock issues, but if they're in a dialogue on talk then blocking is out at the moment. Pedro :  Chat  22:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
