Ross Ulbricht edit

Hi, regarding this,. The alternative to using 'convict' is using a form of words that describes why he is 'notable' - why there is a Wikipedia article about him at all. A form of words such as "is an American who was convicted of .... name of crime" or "is an American who was sentenced to X years for .... name of crime". Either would need to be phrased so as to fairly clearly and quickly mention Silk Road. "An American man ..." is vague to the point of being pointlessly uninformative and anodyne. The other way to go is to mention Silk road first immediately followed by conviction and sentence.

Not so long ago the opening sentence said " is a convicted drug dealer' (or whatever the precise conviction was) - another editor objected to this form of words and substituted 'convict' - which personally I think is blunter and less informative than naming the crime. Whatever way we do it - the raw fact is that Ulbricht is known for having started Silk Road which led to him being convicted and sentenced - that has to be clear, and in the eyes of WP, he is largely deemed guilty of that crime by virtue of having been tried, regardless of our own opinions of the fairness of either the conviction or sentence.

There are various processes if we cannot agree - but discussion should take place here, or, even better, on the article talk page, rather than by email, so that a 'public' record is kept for all those interested in the article. Pincrete (talk) 06:32, 28 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Your signature edit

Hi Paul, I noticed your comment at Talk:Boycott, but don't have anything substantive to add to it because I only watch the article for anti-vandalism purposes. However, I noticed that your signature does not have a link to your user page and doesn't include your username, in contravention of the guideline about the matter. The best instructions for fixing this are actually in the relatively controversial essay Wikipedia:Use the default signature. Graham87 14:48, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graham

Thanks for your message. I'm green on all of this as you can guess. I've followed the guidelines you linked to and that suits me fine. The tag line I had chosen looks really strange to me now, so it was a good opportunity to get rid of it. I'm not sure whether outlining my concern and not getting a response means that it's reasonable to do the edit as suggested?

Viewsion Virtual Environments Ltd. moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Viewsion Virtual Environments Ltd., is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 15:38, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
