Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Optimom. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! — alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 22:45, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Edit summaries

edit

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. Please do be sure to give clear edit summaries explaining the rationale behind your changes. We only roll back or undo edits without explanation if there has been clear vandalism. Reverting good faith edits or edits you do not agree with needs a summary to help the editor and the rest of us understand what's happening. Thanks Span (talk) 22:09, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think you are a valued Wikipedian as you contribute here. We aim to do the best we can. Happy editing. Span (talk) 22:21, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you have any questions or need any help, just drop me a line here on my talk page (like you did before). It can sometimes take a little while to find your way around Wikipedia. I'm very happy to help out. Best wishes Span (talk) 23:31, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your reversion of the Gary Snyder article

edit

Hi, Optimom. Just curious why you reverted my alterations to the Gary Snyder article.

My changes weren't vandalism. A look at the range of books Snyder has written through the years (many of them collections of essays and public talks), or better yet a reading of his work (or a look at one of the C.V.s you can find for Snyder online) should confirm that he's been a social commentator. Snyder is a writer and a talker – poetry being one dimension of the writing he's done.

Gary Snyder's environmental activism, his travel writings, and his critique of the goals and life patterns of modern industrialized socieites all establish him as more than simply a poet. His poetry has won him most (but not all) of his laurels — so I'd left in mention about being "best known as a poet".

Please let me know your thoughts in this. Thanks.Joel Russ (talk) 22:19, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

You wrote to me:"I thought the wording was strange for the lead paragraph. I'm new here, so my undo might have been a mistake. Feel free to undo it if you feel that my change did not improve it. Perhaps I should lurk more before editing. Optimom (talk) 22:24, 18 May 2013 (UTC)"
Okay, I understand. Why don't you make a suggestion for the wording. Maybe between the two of us we can come up with a resolution - something better than the old edit that you re-instated, and better than the wording I had.Joel Russ (talk) 23:07, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
See this typical definition of the term http://www.thefreedictionary.com/man+of+letters
I'll change the intro back to my edit. Maybe someone will alter the intro somehow to use better language while still including the larger compass of Mr. Snyder's work.Joel Russ (talk) 23:59, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Wikipediocracy logo.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Wikipediocracy logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:25, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Osip Brik, Lili Brik and Vladimir Mayakovsky 1928.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Osip Brik, Lili Brik and Vladimir Mayakovsky 1928.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
