Don't rely on me checking messages frequently. You can always send an e-mail from the User page to get my attention if it's anything important.

I know you're not checking this page very often . . .

but when you do, I just want you to know that I hope you will eventually return to editing Wikipedia. You have knowledge and a perspective that is needed here. Please say "hello" if you decide to return. Best wishes, in any event. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:54, 17 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Paul S. Farmer

edit

Hi. :) As I had previously suggested to Mr. Farmer, I've listed the article at WP:COIN for neutral review. As I'm pretty sure you were more involved in helping him than I, I just wanted to ask you (should you chance to see this soon :D) to let me know or correct me if I've muffed anything substantial at that listing. Memory fades. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:03, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I couldn't have summed it up better.
Paul is clearly still working on it, it's not a key article that needs to be perfect in every way immediately. There is was some material that some might have considered superfluous in there, that in some cases was significant but less than well-phrased (I think some of the blitz editing appears to have missed the point). Maybe the style was discursive but if Wikipedia is truly open to everyone then the more rigorous spirits need to remember that streamlining isn't everyone's style preference. Errater's (albeit less than fully referenced) criticism/scepticism didn't seem unreasonable but Weakopaedia appears to be someone with a seriously serially (from his talk page) bile-overloaded agenda.
However - I decided I would stay clear of this, not because of anything specific to the PSF article but because I'm simply keeping well away from involving myself with articles. I can take the pointless arguments, disagreements and hostilities, but this last time I got myself professionally stitched up. I'm pretty sure I'm able to recognise it when it happens but if I can't prove it, it's not worth wasting time, so I've decided to cut my losses and just stick on the sidelines, getting pleasure from all the good and useful things Wikipedia has to offer. I'm not much good at self-restraint and half measures so I've just had to accept that staying on the sidelines has to mean not getting involved, even when regrettable things have happened to articles that I regard as real-world important. So I'm sorry not to contribute more here but nevertheless I'm very happy to express complete support for the way you've responded. Opbeith (talk) 21:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. :) I'm heartened that so many people are responding, cleaning the article and talking to Mr. Farmer. Frequently, I don't get that much feedback at COIN. :D
I'm really sorry to hear that you are feeling so stressed by working on Wikipedia. Selfishly, I don't want us to lose you. :( You do good work and bring good perspective to things. But I'm glad that you're still getting pleasure from the sidelines, anyway. I don't want your health to suffer for the sake of a hobby. But I can hope that the environment changes enough that you can safely return. I'll keep doing what I can. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:31, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for doing your best. Sadly it looks as if the control freaks smelled blood, though nice to see some positive people as well. Following on from my experience at BLPN it seems notice boards are like dry-season pools on Amazon tributaries. It's not stress, it's the sense of futility. But long may your own well not run dry! Hedgehog in the Cage

edit

Hi Owen. Are you still around? I created this article (a childhood remembrance). Can I take up a moment of your precious time and ask you to read the article? I wonder if it is comprehensible also to a non-Czech readers. (The subject is known mainly in my country, as far as I know). Thanks for any help ... and ask whatever, as usually. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:03, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I replied on my talk (my text is green, for better orientation). I wish you a nice Sunday :) --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 06:48, 9 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

P.S. I wanted to give you this since long time, but I didn't know how to send them :) Bahraini Activist (talk) 10:08, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think it is a well deserved appreciation. Opbeith's retirement is a big loss for Wikipedia :( --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:26, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks to you both for your kind words, but more so for your honest, dedicated and constructive input and for representing the side of Wikipedia that I value and find inspiring.Opbeith (talk) 22:12, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
