Combining Organizations with Companies and Corporations (dropping corp from title)

edit

Hi.

I would love to work with you on this. There has been a merge tag at Notability for Organizations and discussions at the talk page for both pages for some time, but the discussion had lagged. I brought the subject up at both pages in December or late November, and then the discussion was merged to Companies with a redirect message posted at Organizations. The conversation soon regressed into specifics rather than looking at the big picture, then went dormant. In mid-January I suggested that we end the discussion on the merger by the end of January and make a decision as to whether we should develop text for a combined page, with the goal of completion to be mid February.

I had also proposed a very simple set of guidelines in my initial message, but it seems to be too simplistic, and at minimum should be more consistent with the central criteria for notability.

My concern is that we have too many specialty criteria in potentially conflicting locations. In an attempt to be very specific, we have become very ambiguous, since most situations can be seen as fitting into multiple categories and the notability projects have diverged as they evolved.

Sincerely,

Kevin --Kevin Murray 20:01, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A brief question: do you consider companies to be a subset of organizations? --Kevin Murray 20:42, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Yes, I agree, and thus see them as pertinent to the same critieria as other organizations, thus the advocacy of the merger at notability. --Kevin Murray 21:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

At Company there is a good discussion of the varying worldwide definition of "Company." This is consistent with our understanding. --Kevin Murray 21:13, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! At the CfD for Organizations by geography, etc., would you mind giving a link to the renaming discussion about the "brand new organizations category scheme"? We could use some context. Thanks. Her Pegship (tis herself) 01:34, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Wikipedia:WikiProject Groups

edit

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Groups, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Literally zero content. John Carter

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Wikipedia:WikiProject Groups|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. John Carter 14:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Scheldt map.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. —Angr/talk 16:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your moderation during the early Garrett Lisi / ESToE phase

edit

Hi Oldsoul - first I want to thank you for your persistent moderation during the first two months of "An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything". I think you've done a great deed to Wikipedia and the public, in two ways: (1) you've made sure the stub stays, and (2) you've helped adding valuable material to it. -- Since the article was quiet for a while, the bloggers were quiet since X-mas, and I believe everything that should be said for now was said (and a lot more was said that probably shouldn't have been said ... that's the sad part of the story) I've posted a full rewrite of the article. Please see whether it is agreeable, whether I've done mistakes (please correct), and for my motivation see the talk page. Thanks again for your great work! Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Furnesflooding.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Furnesflooding.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:39, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Better source request for Image:Acrossthescheldt.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Acrossthescheldt.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
