Welcome!

Hello, OCAD Team, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Draft:OCAD (Software), may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:OCAD (Software)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:OCAD (Software), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 15:59, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Hi. I like to write an article about the OCAD Software. I have done so already in German with the same username and the same text, that's why I'm a bit confused why I have been blocked now. I have declared on my user page that I work for a company and my work is paid.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Voice of Clam (talk) 10:28, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The difference is that while German Wikipedia permits accounts that represent businesses, English Wikipedia does not. English Wikipedia's username policy states that an account is for the sole access of a single individual, not to be shared with anyone else, and the name must reflect individual use. Please note that if your unblock and rename request is accepted, your username will change across all language-versions of Wikipedia. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:47, 3 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi
So may is it best to create a new personal user name for the English Wikipedia and publish the page with that user name?
BR OCAD Team (talk) 09:01, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's what you should do once the block is removed(or altered to permit you to create a personal account), but not before. 331dot (talk) 09:58, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi
Is there any news concerning the unblocking request of my username?
Thanks for the feedback. OCAD Team (talk) 09:57, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do you understand that if we rename this account, it will rename it on all versions of Wikipedia(including the German one, even though this username is allowed there). Do you want us to do that, or to permit you to create an individual account for your exclusive use?
You will also need to tell us what will change about your editing. While you did declare as a paid editor, your edits were promotional in nature. Wikipedia is not a place for organizations to tell the world about themselves and what they do(at least here on the English Wikipedia). A Wikipedia article about an organization must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Press releases, staff interviews, announcements of routine business activities, and brief mentions do not establish notability. 331dot (talk) 10:17, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi
My goal is to create a short article about the leading software provider for orienteering maps, as it's written here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orienteering_map#Computer_aided_maps_(digital_cartography)
I would like to translate the German page, which was reviewed and accepted by Wikipedia editors: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/OCAD_(Software)
If that's not good enough for the Enghlish Wikipedia, then I will no longer continue the project.
Otherwise, I would like to have the permission to create an individual account to create the page.
Thanks for your feedback. OCAD Team (talk) 11:45, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Note that aside from username policies, content policies differ between the German and English Wikipedia. Someone else will review your request. 331dot (talk) 11:55, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, please answer the following questions to help administrators determine if you understand English Wikipedia's policies:

  1. What is English Wikipedia's policy on editors who edit with a conflict of interest? (Hint: WP:COIE will help)
  2. How does an editor write text in a neutral tone that is appropriate for an encyclopedia? (Hint: WP:NPOV will help). Specific examples of NPOV language that you plan to use in the article will help demonstrate your skills.
  3. Can you commit to using the article for creation process (at WP:AfC) to create this article, and the edit request wizard (at WP:ERW) to make further edits to article in which you have a COI?

Please answer these questions below. Z1720 (talk) 02:41, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
