WikiProject Long Island membership

Your offer is tempting. Admittedly, I haven't lived on Long Island since 1999, but I plan a vacation there in May 2008. I've also added some WP:LINY banners to many of the appropriate articles without a membership, so if necessary, I may take you up on the invitation. ----DanTD (talk) 18:29, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I have to test it first. I don't actually have the bots approval. Just wait a while.--RyRy5 Talk to RyRy? 19:32, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for the wait. I think you have to ask someone else about a bot like that. Yours may be a bit complicated.--RyRy5 Talk to RyRy? 22:51, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I actually created it myself. But I did have some help from User:Jj137 and User:Milk's Favorite Cookie.--RyRy5 Got something to say? 23:03, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Of course not. Why would you think that?--RyRy5 Got something to say? 23:09, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

How about Jj? Oh, and do you want me to give oreo a good word?--RyRy5 Got something to say? 23:14, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I won't be able to devote time to articles that fall under the vast umbrella of this project. I am currently involved with the WP:AWC and WP:MILITARY. Just so you know, I'm considering putting your comedy rap page up for deletion. If you wish to keep it, I suggest you find some references for notability ASAP. Just though you should know, as you did pour a ton of time into this article. --Sharkface217 00:02, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I suggest you enlist the help of a few fellow editors with helping to improve the page. If you're not sure how to reference, see WP:REFERENCE. --Sharkface217 00:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Um, why did I get the Wikiproject LI newsletter and why am I listed on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Long Island/memberletter? Missing image Image:Lightmatter panda.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Lightmatter panda.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Lightmatter panda.jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Lightmatter panda.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I'd be very very careful about this - we have a current arbitration case going which may require a lot more communication between bot owners and users than is presently the case when it concludes. For example - how would a bot identify "controversial"? Orderinchaos 16:07, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

You're meant to be focusing on writing content, not playing with things like bots and other frivolous distractions. It's only a matter of weeks since you were blocked and then unblocked with the proviso that you contribute content. You've been making a very low ratio of article to userspace contributions again and it's looking quite likely that if you don't change this, you will be topic banned from the user and usertalk namespace. Speedy deletion of Portal:Long Island

A tag has been placed on Portal:Long Island requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section P2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a portal based on a topic for which there is no non-stub header article, and there are not at least three non-stub articles detailing subject matter that would be appropriate to discuss under the title of that portal.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Portal:Long Island|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. George The Dragon (talk) 18:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProjects

Based on this note, I have a feeling you don't quite understand WikiProjects. They are not cabals. You shouldn't be telling people to join with the intent of not contributing. Your interpretation appears to hope to create it as a place to hang out and put your name down, not to build articles. Metros (talk) 22:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

And just how frequently are you planning to release newsletters? Twice in 26 hours is not necessary. Especially when the only news is people joining and a GA failing. Take a look at other WikiProjects to see how they do it. Metros (talk) 22:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Seriously? A third newsletter in under 4 days? This is completely unnecessary. Like I said, please look at other WikiProjects to see how they handle newsletters. This should not be coming out every other day. Metros (talk) 02:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay, really. Stop. This is getting out of hand. There is absolutely zero reason why a newsletter needs to be sent out for a Wikiproject on four different occasions in a week, especially when the Wikiproject has done nothing is said week. This is getting disruptive. I highly suggest you knock it off now. Metros (talk) 00:15, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm not really interested. I try to only join Wikiprojects that I'm interested in and will contribute to. If I were you, I'd start at Category:Wikipedians in Long Island. Re:Admin coaching

I am currently coaching 4 other users right now and I'm slightly apprehensive about taking another on. My coaching of a user usually lasts about 1-2 months, but I don't really think that you will be ready for an RFA until at least 7 months have passed (because of your blocks). I would prefer it if you continued to edit for about 5 more months before I begin coaching you. In the meantime, you should get some experience at WP:AFD, WP:TFD, WP:NPP, WP:RCP, and in general article building. I think it would also help if you participate in less socializing compared with editing (as shown by Sharkface 217's RFA). By doing these things, it would give you quite a bit of experience and greatly improve your understanding of Wikipedia and adminship. Happy editing, Malinaccier (talk) 23:49, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

I remember. I'll give it to you in about 20 probably. Malinaccier (talk) 23:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Nothing444

  Resolved.

Hi N444, turns out that I still had this page watchlisted. There's been some recent, unpleasant activity. I recommend getting it deleted. {{db-g7}} with an explanatory edit summary should do the trick, or you could just ask an admin to do it for you. You can of course recreate it when you need it, but leaving it lying around is a bad idea--somebody will transclude it sooner or later. Hope things are going good--Darkspots (talk) 00:59, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I plan on undeleting when you run at RfA to show how you voted with your IP, so deleting it probably is pointless. Daniel (talk) 01:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Can I suggest you don't have this deleted and instead either close it out, or simply leave it? It will make it more transparent for the future and go along with how we normally treat RfAs. Thanks, Ryan Postlethwaite 01:12, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
The RfA was transcluded on 13 February by David Levy [1]. David found it lying around and transcluded it. I removed it ten minutes later. The only person who had voted in the RfA during that time was David. David had no permission from Nothing444 to transclude the RfA, so transcluding it was out of order. Voting on RfAs when they are not transcluded is also out of order. This was never transcluded properly, so it was never, as they say, opened. If you leave something like this lying around, you have people make recommendations, like Daniel did today, or transclude it, which could happen at any time. Closing this as unsucessful is inapppropriate because it was never transcluded in good faith. Deleting it makes more sense to me. Darkspots (talk) 01:42, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I misread the lack of close banners around it as meaning "open" (I passed over the date accidentally), hence my subsequent revert. Daniel (talk) 01:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
With respect, I made the point above that it's not closed, because it was never opened. Darkspots (talk) 01:48, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
It's a self-nomination that had been accepted by the candidate, there was no reason to believe that the RfA was not intended to be transcluded. Anyway, that's neither here nor their, the fact remains that the candidate decided to self nominate themselves, something that should be recorded in future, unlike a nomination by a third party, where a premature nomination can be deleted if desired, because a third party nom doesn't raise questions over the candidate's judgement and past behaviour (though their acceptance or declination might well do). Oh, there's also the small question of Nothing444 voting on their own RfA using their IP address. That's something that could well be raised in a future RfA. Finally, the existence of an existing RfA is a useful indicator to those considering a nomination. Nick (talk) 01:49, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
When David Levy transcluded the RfA on 13 February, the RfA had not been accepted by the candidate. David should not have transcluded it, period. Nobody should have ever commented on the RfA because it was never transcluded properly. It is accordingly not closed, contrary to your edit summary. My point is, it can't sit around because it could be transcluded at any time. More unnecessary drama. It shouldn't be marked closed because it's not closed. What should be done with it? I mean, this edit of Daniel's to an untranscluded RfA kicked this discussion off: [2]. I'm just trying to stop this sort of unpleasantness from happening.
In terms of your "question of Nothing444 voting on their own RfA using their IP address", I don't know what to say. Has that been confirmed by checkuser? It definitely quacks like a duck. I would raise the small point in return that if Nothing444 is foolish enough to run for RfA in the near-to-medium future, you've got plenty of ammunition. Buckets. If a run happens in, say, mid 2009 on, I hope Nothing444 would be judged primarily on more recent contributions than any of this. Darkspots (talk) 02:37, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
No checkuser to my knowledge. But if this is actually an issue, I have evidence from a non-wikimedia wiki that I am willing to disclose to a CU that I feel reinforces the existing evidence on this wiki of the multi-voting. MBisanz talk 02:55, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

(unindent)This just occurred to me. Proposed solution: blank the page and fully protect it. Keeps the page history intact. If N444 wants to run for an RfA in the future, it can be unprotected, edited, and transcluded. In the meantime, no more mistakes happen. Sound okay? Darkspots (talk) 03:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Not seeing any objections here. Nothing444, are you okay with this idea? Darkspots (talk) 16:58, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't see the point of full-protecting it, but I've courtesy blanked it. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 20:26, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I can help you a little with your bot, but I'm not very good at downloading. First, make a bot account with a name similar to your. Try "NothingBot" (your choice). BTW, I am not going to create my bot anymore, I think there are enough newsletter bots to go around. I may use my bot for a diff purpose if approved.--RyRy5 Got something to say? 23:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
