Hello edit

I've been looking through the DYK page, and I see that you have many new articles! Very nice. I have looked over a few and—as usual—am very impressed. Last I spoke with you, I think that I mentioned Economy of the Han Dynasty, which was my article after History of the Han Dynasty. I now have two more up-and-running: Science and technology of the Han Dynasty and Society and culture of the Han Dynasty. Have a look!--Pericles of AthensTalk 14:55, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know. I'll take a look at them when I get a chance. --Nlu (talk) 17:00, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hi User:Nlu, I see that you have started the copyediting process. Great work so far! You certainly corrected a lot of factual errors. I tried to be as accurate as possible, but sometimes the wording in my sources (such as Cambridge History of China) are too ambiguous or even a bit misleading.
I do have one concern though, and that is the gigantic prose size of this article. Before you started editing, the main prose size was already about 88 KB; 100 KB is considered unacceptable. It is important that you add some material where needed, but please keep in mind that you can't insert too many new sentences; otherwise this article will become way too bloated. Nonetheless, thank you for your impressive contributions so far. Cheers!--Pericles of AthensTalk 21:25, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
In fact, if you could include reducing the size of sentences by rewording as part of your copyedit effort, that would be very, very appreciated. User:Madalibi and I started this effort but never really finished.--Pericles of AthensTalk 21:37, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Forgot that size is a concern. Yes, I'll try to reduce article size where warranted. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. --Nlu (talk) 22:05, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Check out this sweet picture I just downloaded; I've already placed it in the Science and technology of the Han Dynasty article. Bad ass.
I see that you're doing an excellent job of cutting out the extra fat, good work! However, don't go overboard and delete too many significant items; it's ok to strip some of the fat away, but it doesn't need to be cut down to the bone, if I may use a cooking metaphor. I really like the fact that you provided an opposing view to Bielenstein on Wang Mang's failures; it adds quality and class to the article to show opposing viewpoints (plus it makes it look less biased). More importantly, whenever you cite an online website, you must provide the exact retrieval date (i.e. when you accessed the material) in your citation. For example, look at citation #40 in my article Zhang Heng when I cited an online site for the University of St. Andrews. You should model your citations as such; I think this should apply also to the online chapters of the Zizhi Tongjian.--Pericles of AthensTalk 02:39, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm also embarrassed that you found so many errors so far!--Pericles of AthensTalk 02:42, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

(unindenting) Well, a lot of non-Chinese sources have a tendency of simplifying Chinese historical events and yet (usually unintentionally) introducing inaccuracies. Thanks for getting back to me. --Nlu (talk) 02:44, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nice picture.  :-) --Nlu (talk) 02:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm basically done for now — although when I get a chance I'll give it another look. Meanwhile, I'll take a few hundred years back forward to the Tang Dynasty and write a couple articles before looking at your other (very impressive) articles for copyediting, I think. Nice job! --Nlu (talk) 03:44, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Have fun creating more articles; they are always impressive.--Pericles of AthensTalk 03:52, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that the ancient sources should be cited in quite the same way, since it's not really the Web text that we're citing, but rather the underlying source itself. I am open to being persuaded, however. --Nlu (talk) 03:54, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah, don't worry about it; I suppose the way you cited Zizhi Tongjian is fine. However, could you fix "Zhao Yi, Notes of the Twenty-Two Histories, Wang Mang's Defeat[1]" so that it does have a retrieval date?.--Pericles of AthensTalk 05:57, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 06:00, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, thank you! Cheers.--Pericles of AthensTalk 06:05, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

cencorship edit

some editors are trying to push a POV that the tang dynasty was an immigrant loving, multicultural paradise. they have deleted massivesections refuting this misconception spread by many.

User:Arilang tried to spread pro cantonese POV on the talk page of tang dynasty. he was subsequently squashed by another editor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.155.141.241 (talkcontribs)

I understand your point, but I have to believe that your edits violate policy. Use NPOV language and write in better style. --Nlu (talk) 02:53, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

take a look at arilang's contributions. if this kind of bull is tolereated here, with arilang trying to censor material to make PROC look bad compared to other dynasties, then this wiki is a piece of crap.

Arilang clearly has an agenda to push. he is trying to make han, tang song, etc. dynasties look good in comparison to PROC so he can soapbox his userpage with essentially bullshit and personal views and opinions. he has also tried to claim that "mandarin speakers" have no connection to tang, han dynasties, and claims its all cantonese people descended from tang. he glorifies the Cantonese peasant dictator Dr. Sun Yixian on his userpage, with an innapropiate box as he is not dr. Sun.

User:Bathrobe is trying to push an agenda to make manchus chinese on the manchu people talk page, making up his own definition of "chinese", according to him "mongoloid people who speak a sinitic language". he pulled this crap out of thin air. also his paragraph on his user page about deleting his "rant", is clearly an attempt to conceal soapboxing, about supposed "han chauvanism". if he openly said he was against han chauvanism, it would be noticed and deleted as innapropiate. instead, he decided that concealing it into a complaint paragraph (if he was really concerned about people bombadrding him with messages with emails, they could still at what he wrote in the history because his message is right there explaining it! if he really wanted to hide it, he would have deleted the whole thing, but this is obviously a concealed soapboxing attempt.

User:Tenmei is constantly flooding the talk pages of Tang dynasty and Inner Asia during Tang Dynasty, Salting the Earth with references to fancy english phrases, completely driving everything off topic, and labeling anyone's edits who disagree with him as "toxic". he even came up with a ridiculous merge proposal proposing to merge the inner asia article with salting the earth, so the "ip cannot get at it", and loaded his comments with fancy phrases, links to wiktionary, and completely irrelevant things to confuse users. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.83.159.54 (talk) 01:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

Han Dynasty looks a bit different these days, I wonder who changed it? (Wink. Lol).--Pericles of AthensTalk 17:14, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Looks nice! Thanks for letting me know. When I have time I'll look through it more earnestly. --Nlu (talk) 22:10, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wow! You are by far the most active member of Wikiproject Chinese History. I would be king of the mountain in terms of contributions to Chinese history on Wiki if it weren't for you! How dare you rob me of my glory! Lol. Seriously though, you are a huge asset to Wiki. I know this is all volunteering on your part, but you should be paid for this work. You've done so much! And you definitely deserve the barnstar I gave you.--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:15, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your compliment. I am not stylistically a talented writer, and I don't have time to do "book research" at this point other than the books I have, so I particularly do appreciate the in-depth coverage that you're doing. --Nlu (talk) 23:43, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Since you've done so many biographies using the Zizhi Tongjian, would you consider doing some more key Han figures like Sang Hongyang, Dou Gu, Dou Xian, and Dou Wu? They're pages are still in the infancy stage of development, which is sad because they are all rather important. If you can't find the time, don't bother.--Pericles of AthensTalk 00:46, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps. I do hope to, at some point, turn back to Han or even older times to try to fill out some currently missing or overly short biographies, but I have to see how much time I have to do so... --Nlu (talk) 02:46, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
