I was both glad & excited to have an editor of your esteem comment on my FAC for Jewellery. You comments are valid & I have left a response on the page there saying how I will amend them. I have also asked you if you would be willing to re-adress some of your points though. Thanks a lot. Spawn Man 00:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nichalp,

Thanks for the award. Believe me, I have been longing to award you with this one, but couldn't find "The Perfect Image". Your award made me go into a hunt, and here is what I had in mind for you.... — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:11, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have awarded editors in Wikipedia only four times. On two occasions, I invented the award to be given. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:11, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Mumbai city officials

edit

Hi, is there still a reason to keep this template around? It's not currently used in any article, as far as I can tell it was substed at some point at both Mumbai and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. If you agree that there's no purpose to it anymore, just tag it with db-author or delete it yourself, or alternatively you could put it into use in the two aforementioned articles. Thanks. - Bobet 12:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Notability of IAS Officers

edit
I would like to point out [2] and [3] and also [4]I am not able to understand the difference between these three officers. Why is that two of them have been kept while the third one has been deleted. Why there is such a great bias and inconsistency. I would like to know the process of nominating the former articles for deletion again or have a review of the deletion of third article. As a senior Wikipedian, look into these matters _Doctor Bruno__Talk_/E Mail 13:37, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
As a senior Wikipedian, look into these matters Wow that's really blunt and without a courtsey please. There is a difference. A serving Municipal Commissioner or Mayor is definately more notable than an IAS officer who is posted to a lesser role. Notability criteria: If a newspaper or magazine publishes a background report about the person, consider him notable. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:04, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bias?

edit

You said: I also smell a systemic bias here on that AFD, can you explain what you meant by that? In general terms or just against this article? Just interested :D I also replied to your comment as well, and have revised my opinion slightly (I tend to do that alot unfortunately) as my original statement may have been a little rash. Please let me know (on the AFD) what you think of my idea. Cheers :D --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 16:27, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Marathi or Hindi

edit

Hi Nichalp. I need some help in a dispute over Belgaum that I am mediating. Can you take a look at this and tell me whether the words "Mahanagar palika, belgaum" are in Hindi or Marathi (the 2nd line). Thanks. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 07:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. There is a lot of lawyering going on at the talk page over the fact. I was also sure of it, but thought I would double-check with you. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 11:50, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gandhinagar

edit

I have already looked at the article with that intention. There is not much of history in Gandhinagar. The layout is unique and would take up some space. Probably would be one of the shortest Indian city FAs. I will start working from tonight. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 12:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have already started searching. Found this. I already know where to get the population data, climate, temperatures and such stuff. The book could help with the history section. You can even download a 17 page excerpt from the book. Will try and extract info from the book. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 12:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I have started with Gandhinagar but find myself distracted by too many disputes. My talk page is in a mess these days. Could you have a look at Belgaum. There is a constant revert war going on about everything and the only edit summary left by everyone is "see talk". The talk page of the article is in a mess too. Currently the problem is about whether to include the Marathi transliteration in the Belgaum article. Wikiproject Indian cities is vague about the issue saying that the transliteration must be provided in the local language. The dispute here is whether Marathi is a local language (hence the photo I had asked about). Sadly, the user does not agree that it is Marathi, and the revert war continues. I am clueless how to go forward. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 17:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Hopefully that should cool them off. Sadly a lot of Indian pages need dispute resolution. There are edit wars happening on nearly all controversial pages. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 17:23, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do something about Belgaum article

edit

Dear Sir, A user is unnecessarily creating a fuss.I have cited my sources which I have been providing continuously but that particular user is deliberately avoiding those. Here I give u all the citations/sources to prove my point.Given those,I dont think we shud waste time with that person who is just not intrested in amicable and logical discussion.

Its accordance with Official Language act 1981 and ordered by Karnataka high courts.See: *http://www.hindu.com/2006/01/25/stories/2006012505160300.htm and

  • 2)See this link which confirms the above claim that Belgaon Mahanagarpalika uses Marathi along with other languages.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/051126/48/618nr.html

  • 3)Character 'ळ' is not used in Hindi.See Devnagari , http://www.haryana-online.com/devnagri.htm All the citations given by another user is perhaps an exception for SOUTH INDIAN names(of cities and people).बेळगांव is an Marathi name and not of any SOUTH INDIAN LANGUAGE.
  • 4)Mahanagarpalika 'word ' is used in Marathi (and not in Hindi which terms it as Nagar nigam.)See Allahabad and http://www.bhopalmunicipal.com Mahanagarpalika and Nagarpalika are NOT same.Nor is Mahanagarpalika and Mahanagarpalike(of Kannada). The Devnagari script used on board confirms that it either Hindi or Marathi. There's no question of other languages.
  • 5)Hindi users term Belgaum as बेलगाम.See the PRONOUNCIATION at BELGAUM page itself!

Also see this links which confirms it. *http://navbharattimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1466366.cms

Look for the word बेलगांव there.

6)Searching बेळगांव or बेळगाव will yield u ONLY Marathi results.

I request u,as u r supposed to be a authority since u were able to lock that page,go through above citations and tell the guy in question to stop wasting others time by questioning established facts. He has also not able to prove that the board is in Hindi.

This is my earnest request that since 'pushing of POV' is common at Belgaum and Belgaum_district it shoulld be kept protected or atleast carefully WATCHED by NEUTRAL and COMPETENT authorities.

problem on map

edit

I thought you were inactve, so did not contact you earlier. Thanks for your input in West Bengal FAC. Majority of the issues can be taken care of, but there is a problem I cannot handle. The problem regarding the locator map, Image:India West Bengal locator map.svg. The map shows 18 districts in stead of 19 districts, and, an updated map is not available in the web! Please see this request in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India Maps, where one way to develope a proper map has been suggested. A similar request was put in the talk page of wikiproject maps, but no response yet. Can u please help/ suggest someone who can help? I talked with Planemad (talk · contribs), and he replied that, "...just follow your method on the map using mspaint and mail me the jpeg, i will make the required changes to the svg map." Unfortunately I do not even know how to develope a map using MSPaint or ny other software :( Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:05, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the advice. I shall try myself, and also contact Deeptrivia. Hope you'll be back in full form soon. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nichalp,
I was going to let this carry my thanks to most as I recogniz/se copying thanks to talk pages isn't necessarily appreciated (and many folk such as yourself are very busy) but as the below has intervened, here also is my thanks for your involvement!

Please also add you name to WP:LA

Unfortunately WP:LA causes my browser to crash whenever I try to load it; yes, it's Firefox (v1.0.7) but doesn't have the Google Toolbar installed... Maybe WP:LA might be split into two or more pages...?  Best wishes, David Kernow 23:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I ended up at User talk:Steel359 just now, I noticed a nice little greet message for Steel having gotten a consensus for the mop. It still links to VFD. I couldn't find where you were substituting the template from, else I'd have corrected it. You should have it say AfD; new admins shouldn't get the impression AfD is a vote. :) --Kevin_b_er 16:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
