September 2020 edit

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:52, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I have not received any compensation for our contributions to Wikipedia. I understand that the reason for my block was due to the fact that my username had "gallery" at the end of it, implying that my posts were promotional and made on behalf of my business. On the contrary, I am not trying to promote my gallery or the artists I represent for financial profit or acclaim. I simply want all of these hard-working artists to have Wikipedia pages so that art-lovers and the public can get information about their work and practices most easily. I do not intend to promote them or present them in an unrealistic or flattering light in order to make sales. All of the information I post will be factual and well resourced.

Decline reason:

No thanks. To understand why, please see WP:COI and WP:PROMO. You are too close to this subject matter (reasonably, and not unexpectedly). If you wish to write about subject areas for which you have no conflict of interest, convince us you understand these policies and tell us what you'd like to write about instead. Request reason:

I understand that my account is indefinitely blocked because my business connection with the artists I wanted to post about serves as a conflict of interest, and I am no longer seeking to reactivate or change the username of my account in order to make those contributions. However, the personal computers of my staff have also been blocked indefinitely from posting anything on Wikipedia by way of their IP addresses. These individuals have accounts of their own, unrelated to the operations of my gallery, that they can no longer use to contribute to Wikipedia, and they brought this issue to my attention after trying to log on several times after the workday and continually finding their IP addresses blocked. I am hoping that you are willing to unblock the IP addresses associated with this account, but not the account itself, so these people won't be indefinitely prevented from posting on Wikipedia like they usually do, abiding by Wikipedia's rules and codes of conduct.

Decline reason:

These users can request a lifting of their autoblocks at their respective talk pages. Since you are not requesting unblock of your own account, I am declining this. only (talk) 21:20, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Can you please let us know which accounts are affected? I'll be happy to modify the block once verifying (1) they have properly declared their conflicts of interest on their user pages, and (2) have not illicitly edited any articles in violation of WP:COI. I want to be clear, there's still time for them to declare their conflicts of interest if they have not done so (and if they are unable to do so on their user pages, due to the block, they can do so on their user talk pages). Note, though, if they've been illicitly violating WP:COI, I'm personally unwilling to modify the block and would consider them to be in violation of WP:MEAT. Other administrators may hold a different opinion. --Yamla (talk) 16:25, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
