Mystic

edit

Being born and raised in Mystic, I am quite familiar with the area in its entirety. I am also very familiar with your organisation, unfortunately as much as we all have desires for topics to be in Wikipedia, not everything is noteworthy enough to have its own article, and there is only limited space within each article; therefore topics brought forth must be considered very heavily. I appreciate your passion for what you do, however Wikipedia is not a soapbox.

I have also noticed that the page on Mystic Ballet is violating Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Wikipedia is a great way for people to learn about many things, and we could probably all use to brush up on the cultural aspects, but if something is noteworthy enough to be in Wikipedia, someone else will generally write the article. I recommend (if you would like things written on the Mystic Ballet page), you implore others to do so based on their experiences, and forget about the Mystic page. Once your non profit is noteworthy enough, it will just happen. Otherwise you violate Wikipedia's most cherished principal Neutral Point of View which Wikipedia describes as "non-negotiable." Fair use rationale for File:PagePhoto 5a.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:PagePhoto 5a.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. TheFeds 16:17, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Username

edit

  Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen (Mystic Ballet) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is Mystic Ballet. Thank you. --Drm310 (talk) 14:37, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:PagePhoto 5a.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:PagePhoto 5a.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. A fluffernutter is a sandwich!   Hello, Mystic Ballet. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 00:32, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I see that you've edited as a promotional account with an open conflict of interest since 2008, and have continuously removed COI and other maintenance templates from Mystic Ballet. I've asked that this account be blocked. Almost a decade late. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:22, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I am sorry if I have "created a conflict of interest".

My relationship with Mystic Ballet Company is - that I am a volunteer for this non-profit organization (not a paid position), just a supporter of the art of dance. The account is set up by MB Company for volunteers to update and help maintain information related to the company.

I have to admit that I am new to the Wiki, but I have read the all directions, and suggestions on "wiki page for dance". I even followed the other dance companies protocol and structure regarding the information on the page. I am confused about the directions given by wiki editors in regards to what constitutes a "promotional account" like this.[1]

If I am to talk about The Great Pyramid of Giza, and state facts that [2] for any touristic organization and potential traveler this is a promotional article?! Can you please, be specific about what is "promotional" on Mystic Ballet's Page? And how is this different for any other dance company?

In the Wiki suggestion page for dance is suggested to list works, professional critics, choreographers, dancers, and artistic leadership. Please if you have any particular dance company related page to suggest that I should follow, it will be of great help.

And if I may suggest if the other contributors - editors (like 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:22, 14 March 2017 (UTC)) can list there credentials and connections to the art of dance it will be helpful to follow the line of conflict of interest or bias position for any reason. It would be beneficial for wiki if unsubstantiated revisions by unqualified / or personal interest contributors be blocked from editing pages in question.

After all, I have to assume that if MB Company used some bogus name like xyzect for contribution purposes, it would not be a conflict of interest?

There have been two problems identified with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 02:05, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

No, that would still be a conflict of interest. The name is not the problem. Your relationship to the pages you are trying to edit is. --Tarage (talk) 18:20, 14 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
You say above that you are new to Wikipedia, but this account started editing in January 2008, and also has several edits from November 2009. You also say the account "The account is set up by MB Company for volunteers to update and help maintain information related to the company". Do you mean that this account has been used by multiple people? Even if only one person used it at a time, that's also not allowed, in addition to the user name suggesting group representation and any promotional editing. For licensing purposes, one account has to represent one editor. So you, the individual, need to get a new name, but the company also needs to be aware that it's against our policy to have a shared account whose password is given to someone new.
