Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. JohnCD (talk) 22:50, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

This page is not for promotion perpose, this page is to let people know what Mystetskyi Arsenal is, and where it is, and what it does.

Decline reason:

That's pretty much the definition of promotion Jac16888 Talk 15:14, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I was asked to create a page by Mystetskyi Arsenal, may be you could give a suggestion what I can change in order for the page to be unblocked? As I didnt even get the opportunity to reference it correctly, and as far as I understand, there are many other galleries that were able to create a page on wikipedia, can you suggest what I have done wrong? Thank you

Decline reason:

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that you are not willing to follow Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, and are only interested in writing about your own business. For that reason, the block will have to remain in place- this is the kind of edit that the block is in place to prevent. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:43, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You could try and understand that you have a clear conflict of interest here and that we do not allow people to edit Wikipedia for their own benefit--Jac16888 Talk 18:25, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Obviously we respect the rules of wikipedia, and we do want to follow the correct format, but I think the purpose of wikipedia is to inform people about different people and places and therefore we would like to inform people of an unknown and at the same time amazing museum in Kiev, which will have a Biennaly is 2012. I really dont want to create any conflict, but I really do not understand why this is not acceptable.

Decline reason:

Here are a few key questions: You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:47, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I understand the importance of the correct procedures of creating a wikipedia page, however there are company pages such as Musée du Louvre, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and many others that you could say also using it as a pormotional purpose. What is the difference between the page that we created and our page? I would really appreciate it if you could help us further on how we can amend this problem, and proceed with creating the page for Mystetskyi Arsenal. Would it be beneficial, if the page was created by someone from Mystetskyi? Thank you in advance for your help.

Per comment below. As you have made four requests on this same theme despite being advised that it won't fly, I am revoking your talk page access so you won't further waste our time. — Daniel Case (talk) 20:32, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
The page should not be created by someone from Mystetskyi, or someone hired to do it. You're clearly NOT reading WP:COI. notable museums have pages created by people not associated with the museum. People associated with the museum are not distant enough from it to be able to gauge notability. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:26, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
If your museum is truly notable, it is inevitable that people outside the organization will write about it. If no one outside your organization thinks it's important to write about it, that's a good sign that it isn't notable. Don't worry. Relax. Focus on making your museum wonderful, and don't stress about Wikipedia. It isn't really that important for there to be an article on Wikipedia, as long as your museum has a good web site. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 14:31, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
