Himba culture

Himba are indigenous people leaving in the north west of Namibia. Himba are nomadic herero speaking people leaving mostly in Kaoko land of Opuwo district. They are worldwide recognized of keeping their tradition.

Himba people depend primarily on milk and meat from cattle and goats. They also have small field were they cultivate their crops for seasonal feeding, mostly in drought when their cattle have no more milk. They migrate seasonally due climatic change searching for good pasture for their life-stock. They have traditional sport activities namely: ondjongo, omuhiva and ombimbi. This activities are special that they are performed at big events in the house. Himba are friendly people who familiarize with every one. They are easy to socialize with. For that reason, is what make them to be one of the best tourist attraction in the 'land of the brave'.

  • Man are to Look for cattle and hunting
  • Woman are to raise children
  • Kids with age of 7-15 looks after goats
