Sophy Gardner edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sophy Gardner, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.sophy4gloucester.co.uk/about-sophy/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Speedy deletion nomination of Sophy Gardner edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sophy Gardner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.sophy4gloucester.co.uk/about-sophy/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your draft article edit

Hello, B Kirby! Administrator Peridon asked me to take a look at your draft to see if it would be accepted as an article at Wikipedia. I gather there was an earlier issue with copying; it looks like you have fixed that.

So the issue now is about the subject herself: does Sophy Gardner meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion here? Those criteria are found at WP:GNG and WP:BIO. You've made the best case you could, and she comes close to meeting the criteria in several ways - but probably not close enough IMO. She is an MBE, but Wikipedia does not consider that to be an "automatic inclusion" honor. Similarly, "Wing commander" is not a rank that provides automatic inclusion. She is a candidate for election (chosen in April 2013 to run in 2015? how long is your election season, anyhow???) but being a candidate for election does not provide automatic inclusion either (see WP:POLITICIAN). Of course, if she should be elected to Parliament she would certainly rate an article. The other way to get included is to receive significant coverage from multiple independent reliable sources. She has gotten some coverage from the Gloucester Citizen about running for office, but she would need more than that - she would need to be notable aside from her campaign.

I am just one person and I don't speak for all of Wikipedia. If you want to put the article forward and see if it survives without getting deleted, you can do that. If you decide to do that, some style pointers first: Refer to her in the body of the article as "Gardner", not as "Sophy". Add her birth date or birth year if you know it. Title the article "Sophy Gardner", not "Sophy Gardner MBE". Finally, ask me to do a quick copy-edit before you put it into article-space, and to advise you on reference style and categories.

If you have comments or questions, put them here; I will see them. --MelanieN (talk) 06:48, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oops, you are way ahead of me: it looks like you have already launched the article Sophy Gardner. Go ahead and make the improvements I suggested, such as "Gardner" instead of "Sophy" (that's a red flag for an article that is not encyclopedic). I'll add a few categories for you. --MelanieN (talk) 06:51, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
...and - I see it promptly got nominated for deletion. I had a feeling that would happen. At the discussion I suggested that instead of deletion, the article be made into a redirect to the article about the election. We often do that for candidates. It keeps their name in the encyclopedia, and if they should win (and thus become notable), it makes it easy to restore the article. --MelanieN (talk) 17:46, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Possible additional references edit

At the AfD discussion, somebody posted a whole lot of additional references, suggesting that they could be enough to make her meet the inclusion requirements.

The list of possible references is here: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Sophy+Gardner%22+(site%3Aindependent.co.uk+OR+site%3Atheguardian.com+OR+site%3Atelegraph.co.uk+OR+site%3Adailymail.co.uk+OR+site%3Athetimes.co.uk+OR+site%3Amirror.co.uk+OR+site%3Aexpress.co.uk+OR+site%3Athesun.co.uk+OR+site%3Aujnews.com+OR+site%3Atheweek.com+OR+site%3Amanchestereveningnews.co.uk+OR+site%3Athisislancashire.co.uk+OR+site%3Ametro.co.uk+OR+site%3Abirminghammail.co.uk+OR+site%3Ascotsman.com+OR+site%3Aheraldscotland.com+OR+site%3Awalesonline.co.uk)&rlz=1CAASUA_enUS604US605&oq=%22Sophy+Gardner%22+(site%3Aindependent.co.uk+OR+site%3Atheguardian.com+OR+site%3Atelegraph.co.uk+OR+site%3Adailymail.co.uk+OR+site%3Athetimes.co.uk+OR+site%3Amirror.co.uk+OR+site%3Aexpress.co.uk+OR+site%3Athesun.co.uk+OR+site%3Aujnews.com+OR+site%3Atheweek.com+OR+site%3Amanchestereveningnews.co.uk+OR+site%3Athisislancashire.co.uk+OR+site%3Ametro.co.uk+OR+site%3Abirminghammail.co.uk+OR+site%3Ascotsman.com+OR+site%3Aheraldscotland.com+OR+site%3Awalesonline.co.uk)&aqs=chrome..69i57.455j0j9&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

If you do add some of these, be sure to cite them in the text with a reference. And then you can come to the discussion and say "I added a whole lot more references, take another look." --MelanieN (talk) 18:53, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
