This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Wilbur Curtis Company, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.somethingdirectory.com/Business/Food_And_Beverage/Restaurants_And_Food_Service/Equipment_And_Supplies/Bar_Equipment/81610-8013.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:13, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Curtis Marketing website claims copyright. If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article's talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at the talk page with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article talk page.
  • Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at the article talk page with a link to the web page details.
  • Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at the article talk page saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, you are not getting the point. The name is not acceptable because it refers to an organisation, not because it would clash with another. An account must refer to a single person, and be used only by that person - not a group. For that reason "Wilbur Curtis", being the name of a company is not allowed, please choose a user name for a single person usage, that has no link to the company name.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:25, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Do you understand that if you are unblocked you will not be allowed to post edits relating to your own company? What else do you intend to write about? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:14, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

How does one post an article on wikipedia for their company? If im looking to have an article with some of our history and who we are, how can that be done/who can do it? Am I not authorized to do this as an employee of the company? Thanks. Curtismarketing (talk) 21:49, 5 May 2010 (UTC)CurtismarketingReply

OK thank you. Ive read the guidelines and policies. Can you unblock me so I can post my wiki article request under the wiki request so hopefully someone from the wikiproject will help me out. I do not have any intentions of personally editing the article (if approved). Thanks. Curtismarketing (talk) 22:48, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your company article

edit

I'm sorry you didn't get anywhere at Requested Articles. That's a problem with all-volunteer set-up - nobody has to do anything. Here's another approach: write a draft yourself in your user space at User:MrCurtis/Wilbur Curtis Co., and try the WP:Articles for creation process - you put your draft up, explaining your interest, and someone else will decide if it's OK to go.

When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write.

  • Write a draft article. Be careful to make it drily factual, avoiding any hint of promotion. Your own website, for instance, uses a lot of what we call WP:PEACOCK terms like "advanced, top-of-the-line" and"quality workmanship, personal loyalty and family values" and "artfully aligned quality and customer service with high-tech ingenuity to build a name the industry can trust" - fine in a prospectus, but not in an encyclopedia article which requires a neutral point of view, and where any statement may be challenged with "can you show a reliable source to verify that?"
  • Post a request at WP:Requests for feedback to get comments on it, explaining your interest,
  • When it's ready, take it to WP:Articles for creation, again explaining your interest. Someone will assess it and, if they approve, post it to the main encyclopedia.
