Re:Odd Lot Improv

Fair questions. I will walk you through the reasons for the deletion, and leave some suggested reading for you with regards to the deletion and what can be done about it.

To begin with, your article was tagged for deletion under the criteria for speedy deletion sections A7 and G11. These two sections cover different aspects of deletion on Wikipedia, but it is not terribly uncommon to see them used together in an article.

A7 deletion alleges that the article in question does not adequately demonstrate notability by Wikipedia standards. Notability of Wikipedia is covered broadly by the General Notability Guidelines, and in the case of your group more specifically by the Wikipedia:Notability (people) guidelines as an improv group like the one covered in this article would come under the heading of WP:ENTERTAINER. Entertainer covers the performers such as actors and would be the most specifically relevant guideline for your article. the other part to A7 related deletions is the absence of any credible claim of significance (by Wikipedia standards), which is a leading reason for the deletion of articles under A7 criteria. When simplified to how these effected your article, A7 means that your group isn't internationally famous, hasn't won a Nobel prize or a tony or an Emmy or a golden globe or so forth in that manner. Since it has no anchor of that nature, it can not claim to be notable or significant enough to warrant the retention of the article on Wikipedia.

The other tag, G11, covers pages that are judged to read like advertisements or press releases or so forth in that matter. The relevant reading here is found under WP:NOTADVERTISING and WP:SPAM, which states that articles here have to be written in such a way as to appear to be encyclopedic. To that end then they can not appear to be openly promoting a group, appear to exist to link to the group externally, or otherwise look to be casting a person, place, thing, or idea in an overly positive light. In this case the article's external links and references were drawn principally from the primary sources related to the theater troupe, which lent the impression of a promotional article.

Collectively, the two points and the article's design caused me to agree with the deletion.

Now as to what can be done here, the best advice if you want to have the article here would be to work on it in the draft space. This lets you build an article under the supervision of people who are familiar with the criteria for inclusion here and can help your article reach a point where it can be published in the main space provided that there are sufficient 3rd party sources to establish notability and to verify the material present in the article. In line with this method I can restore and move the article to the draft space if you like. You are also free to start over in either a sandbox or in the article space if you would like to get the article back on Wikipedia. Finally, if you would like to contest the deletion, you can take your petition for a redress of grievances to deletion review. Be forewarned though that at deletion review editors do not typically win their case for the restoration of material. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:53, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
