AfC notification: Draft:Sydney Rolleston has a new comment

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Sydney Rolleston. Thanks! Schwede66 16:51, 12 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your feedback. There is a precedent in Wikipedia for this type of biography - Category:New Zealand recipients of the Military Cross. Additions to the category are by way of a new page rather than adding a recipient's name to a list. Also, in the Help section for additional criteria for any biography WP:ANYBIO it states "The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor". The Military Cross is the second-level (pre-1993) military decoration awarded to officers. Have I overlooked some form of requirement in preparing/submitting the draft? When you reply to other editors not on their talk page, it might pay to ping them. Anyway, I'm no expert on military awards but Zawed is. I would find it hugely surprising that an award that's been dished out over 52,000 times would get someone over the notability threshold. Interested to hear what Zawed has got to say. Just responding to the ping; the existence of a category doesn't automatically mean that anyone eligible to be placed in that category is justified an article. Unfortunately, Rolleston is not sufficiently notable for an article based solely on being a recipient of the MC, which is the third tier of gallantry awards for officers, the VC and DSO are higher. As Schwede66 notes, several thousand MCs were awarded during the war so, and not meaning to downplay the tremendous courage to perform the actions that lead to being awarded one, they are not rare or unusual in the scheme of things. Furthermore, I am not seeing anything else in the draft that justifies an article. This is reinforced by much of the sourcing being based on primary sources. So like Schwede66, I have concerns regarding GNG. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 03:31, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Zawed for your explanation and the fact that you responded very quickly. cc Schwede66 Mljdpl (talk) 04:27, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Obviously, I don't know why you've picked Christopher Rolleston (as the article would have been titled, as we go by WP:COMMONNAME) but if it's because he's from the Rolleston family, may I suggest you get some experience by expanding one of the existing articles first? I'd suggest you work on Mary Rolleston; that's a poor stub and she was beyond doubt quite a character. I've read the 1971 book William & Mary Rolleston and enjoyed it thoroughly. Even if you don't get it out of the library, there's much that could be added from her Dictionary of New Zealand Biography entry. Schwede66 04:04, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Schwede66 for your interest and encouragement. What's the protocol please for deletion of the draft? Will you handle that or should I? Mljdpl (talk) 04:14, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
