WVMR

Hey Mlaffs, got a question on this edit: is it necessary to have the WVMR (AM) and WVMR-FM pages redirecting to Allegheny Mountain Radio (AMR), then the previous version of the page that just had the one wikilink to the AMR page at the top and no wikilinks for the stations? Both WVMR-AM and WVMR-FM are full-time simulcasters of AMR (owned by the company that operates AMR as well). I just think it might be silly to have a redirects on a disambig page. - NeutralhomerTalk19:49, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

I can understand what you're saying. Here are my thoughts:
  • One of the things I go for is consistency - as much as possible, each dab page looking like the others. Same information, same format, etc.
  • Important for people to know that the two redirects exist - if one or the other station changes call signs, or if they sell the station, all the links get cleaned up properly
  • Similarly, if people are putting new links into articles
If you don't agree and want to roll it back, I'm not fussed. Just please don't restore all the blue links that were in the last version of the page - way too many for a dab page. One per line, max. Mlaffs (talk) 22:08, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
OK, how's this for a compromise: at the top of the WVMR disambig page, having it read "WVMR may refer to two radio stations, both a part of the Allegheny Mountain Radio network:". That would let the reader know what they are going to click at the bottom (the station links) are redirects and also information before going to the page. Sound good? - NeutralhomerTalk02:53, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't quite match the style manual, but that sounds great to me! Very reasonable compromise. Mlaffs (talk) 03:20, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Just updated the page. On an unrelated note, CNN Radio is no more. NBC Radio News will take over most affiliates of CNN Radio at Midnight EST, April 1 (which is about 37 minutes away on the East Coast). You might want to get someone with a bot or AWB and update the pages that have CNN Radio linked on them or on there period. - NeutralhomerTalk03:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

WHRL

I removed WHRL from the "complete list" as it does exist. WHRL is a disambig page and the station's page is located at WHRL (FM). As for the other three Virginia stations, I will take care of those right now. Stand by. - NeutralhomerTalk21:07, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

  • My bad - I missed the dab. The article actually doesn't exist, though - WHRL (FM) is a redlink right now. So, you still have four to cover. ;>) Mlaffs (talk) 21:11, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
    • No worries. :) I was looking at the disambig page through Popups, which shows all links as blue (they really should fix that), so that was my goof. I created WHRL (FM), along with WVRS, WGFW and WFAJ. I removed them, as I went, from your Missing U.S. radio station articles page and then updated the "complete list" section when I was finished. Let me know if anymore in VA, MD, WV, DC or southern PA (along the WV or MD borders) pop up. Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk23:26, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
      • Let you know? Looks like you'll see anyway! ;>) The next from that group that I'd land on would be PA (going in reverse alpha order), but it'll probably be a week or more before I get there. Nice work! Mlaffs (talk) 23:37, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
        • Yeah, I will probably notice...unless it is 3am and I am not paying attention. :) I will do my best with PA, but any further north than the counties that border MD or WV and I am lost. Slightly outside of my knowledge area. - NeutralhomerTalk23:52, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited List of FM radio stations in the United States by call sign (initial letters KG–KJ), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crystal, Nevada (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Whip (disambiguation)

Hi, by your edit summary I'm guessing you normally add these details consistently to DABs? [1] I would argue that WP:MOSDAB style is minimalistic, and as there is only one radio station, no further disambiguation needs to happen. In that vain, logically some DAB pages would require longer descriptions, undermining some consistency. Or did I misunderstand? Widefox (talk) 13:46, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

State Progress Lists

Hey Mlaffs, noticed on your state list that you don't list any of the territories of the US: American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. All have radio stations licensed with the FCC. Just a heads-up. - NeutralhomerTalk19:24, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

That's a good point – there is one "List of..." that covers all those territories, and I'll probably end up getting to it last. But it will need to be added into the progress list once I get that far. Mlaffs (talk) 20:44, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Okie Dokie, just wanted to make sure those didn't get missed. I am feelin' like editing again after that massive 2 year project I did a couple years back, so I might knock out some of those articles on the list either tonight or early tomorrow (depending on when I get done watching the shows on my DVR). :) - NeutralhomerTalk22:11, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Appreciate it, and thanks for clearing those four links out of that section too. Two of them were call sign changes that I processed earlier this week, but I forgot to remove them from the state progress section when I removed them from the alpha section. The other two were new articles – I've removed them from the alpha section now too. Glad to hear you're feeling productive again. If you do get moving on that, and you feel like updating the list as you go, I'm all for it – try to check both the alpha and by state sections, as they'll be listed in both if it's a state that I've checked this month.
