1 Wikipedia User Talk Page Policy (please read this first)

edit
  • Deleting the comments of other users from article Talk pages, aside from removal of internal spam, or deleting entire sections of talk pages, is generally considered vandalism. Removing personal attacks is often considered legitimate, and it is considered acceptable to archive an overly long Talk page to a separate file and then remove the text from the main Talk page. The above does not apply to the user's own Talk page, where users generally are permitted to remove and archive comments at their discretion, except in cases of warnings, which they are generally prohibited from removing, especially where the intention of the removal is to mislead other editors.
I have added this in order to avoid futile arguments and potential administrative abuses.

Map upload

edit

First, I will say that I don't know what the copyright status is on this map. Until you have determined that you shouldn't upload it. I would suggest contacting foxearth.org.uk and asking if it is in the public domain or not. If not, ask what license, if any, it is released under. If you have established that it falls under an acceptable license, you will need to download the file to your own computer. Once you've done that, click the "Upload file" link in the toolbox on the left hand side of your screen, or just click the link in this sentence. Read everything written there. If you have done that and are sure you can comply, select the file to upload. The next box is where you will write what you want the file to be called. You should keep the extension, e.g. .jpg, the same as the original but the file name should be descriptive of the image. In the case of this map, you can leave it the same. The next box is where you will write all the stuff you read about earlier, with the exception of the license that the image is under. That is done via the drop down menu. After that just click the "Upload file" button.—WAvegetarian(talk) 21:42, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Are you starting at Special:Upload? Have you checked out Wikipedia:Uploading images? For the source filename, you'd click on the icon to the right of the Source filename and choose the file from your computer to upload. For the destination filename, you'd choose an appropriate name for Wikipedia to call it. The key point is that the file must exist on your computer. Does that help at all? --Yamla 22:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Also note that the map you are trying to upload seems to be created in 1895. You'll need to check that this means the map is no longer protected under copyright but given that it is more than 110 years old, I believe it is no longer protected. It is your responsibility to find out, however. --Yamla 22:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Transfer

edit

Well give it a few days until the account becomes able to move and you can move your old userspace accross using the normal move tools, you can't however reclaim your contribution history there is no facility for that. You best bet is to just walk away for a bit and see if you can remember your original accounts password. --pgk(talk) 21:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

You'll be able to move pages in a few days, so you'll be able to move your old stuff across that way. I can't hack wikipedia in anyway since I don't have direct access to the database (nor do other admins). As I say if you walk away and stop worrying about it, you might find you suddenly remember what it was you set it to. --pgk(talk) 21:41, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Help

You requested help on my talk page. What kind of help would you like? — Reinyday, 20:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

User:Reinyday

Your old account

edit

The account User:Qho is not blocked. You may have typed your password in incorrectly or forgotten your password. If this is the case you can email yourself a new password if you gave an email with your first account. There is nothing we can do if you didn't add an email address to your old account. The passwords to Wikipedia accounts are irretrievable so I advise that you add your email address to this account such that you can reset your passowrd if you need to. If you didn't do this when you registered the account, you can add it now in your preferences, found in the links at the upper right hand side of your screen.—WAvegetarian(talk) 22:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikifaces and your sig

edit

Do you mean the different logos of Wikimedia Foundation projects like Wiktionary, Wikinews, Wikisource, etc.? Also, please stop using the first of the two sigs on your user page. Linking to the articles on Missingno., Talk, and Contributions as your signature may seem amusing to you, but will be quite confusing to others. Your signature must link to your user page at the very least. If you want to have a period at the end of Missingno in your signature which links to the article, that is fine, but the way it is now is unacceptable.—WAvegetarian(talk) 22:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for changing your sig. You can find all of the images that are copyrighted by the Wikimedia Foundation in the CopyrightByWikimedia Category in the Commons. There is a quick index by project just before the gallery on that page. Please keep in mind that these images are copyrighted. Please read this before doing anything with them. —WAvegetarian(talk) 22:39, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

You have made no useful contributions to Wikipedia, and you have been harassing other users. I have blocked you for 24 hours, and I'll be investigating tomorrow to see which of the various "doppelganger" accounts also need to be permanently blocked. --ajn (talk) 23:19, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am being vandalized at this very moment.

HELP!!!!!!!

Go look at my user page.

PLEASE!!!!!

What happened just then?

edit

Okay I am scared to death righ now. --Missingno.(talk) (contribs) 01:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Be not afeared. Userpage vandalism is a common occurence. I suspect this might be the source of problems. Teke 02:30, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes but

edit

it happened to you just a second ago. explain that please. It couldent be just a coincedence could it?

Probably not. I warned the User a couple times, the IP vandalized me. I'll chalk up my counter, and not care about it. We're building an encyclopedia with community involvement; the encyclopedia comes first. Vandalism can be reverted, it's why vandals cannot win. Teke 02:38, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Accounts

edit
User:70.233.181.36 My Ip please keep private
  • Too late. You made it public.
User:Qho My True account
  • I understand you don't have the password for this. If you can't retrieve it, let me know and I'll permanently block the account.
User:QH0 My Dop.
  • I.e. doppelganger. Is there any particular reason for this?
User:HELP Inactive, personally i would like to have obliterated
  • It's indefinitely blocked as an inappropriate username, which is as close as we can get. Which account is this supposed to be a doppelganger for? Doppelganger accounts are supposed to be names which are so similar to your own account name that they could be mistaken for it (Jimbo WaIes, for example, where the "l" is actually a one). Which account name is this supposed to be similar to?
User:Missingno Active
  • If you regain the password for User:Qho, tell me and I'll permanently block this one.
User:Misingno Dop.
  • I have indefinitely blocked this.
User:Kittyispretty Dop.
  • Again, which account is this supposed to be a doppelganger of? I've indefinitely blocked this account.

In general:

  • Stick to one account in future.
  • Stay away from User:Reinyday - no edits to her talk page, no following her around.
  • Edit the encyclopaedia - this is not MySpace or LiveJournal, we're not here to chat or customise our user pages or make friends. There are no edits to articles from this account, and nor are there any from User:Qho.

I'll be watching you. --ajn (talk) 09:03, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

What time is it??

I believe my block should have expired by now.

It has been a little over 24 hours.

So what has happened??

Please Help!!

--Missingno.(talk) (contribs) 01:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} should never be used for blocks. The block log says it expired two hours ago. Paste the block message here and use {{unblock}} to get assistance, or contact the blocking admin.--Commander Keane 01:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I BEG YOU TO HELP!!!

edit

{unblock| I am still blocked eventhough it expired two hours ago!!! PLEASE Help!!!!}

Okay, what block message are you getting? --Pilotguy (roger that) 02:47, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

We can't unblock you at this time, because you haven't given us the information we need to even look into your block. You yourself were not blocked; if you were prevented from editing, you must have been autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. I'm removing your unblock request because there's nothing we can do without this information. If you still want to be unblocked, feel free to add the {{unblock}} tag back to this page, and be sure to include the message you saw when you tried to edit, including the IP address. This is what the message looks like. Without that information, we can't help you. Mangojuicetalk 04:04, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Other account

edit

I've blocked Qho and protected the user page. You seem to like cats - why not find an article about cats which needs to have some work done on it, and start editing articles? --ajn (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm?

edit

Uhh, no, I guess we cleared the unblock? Anyway, I really honestly don't know how my user page(s) ended up like that, it is based loosely on Ian13's, which is where I got most of the stuff from. I was told there was an unclosed code in my header apparently, but hey, it's actually having a positive effect! --Pilotguy (roger that) 18:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

¿¿Help??

edit

¿¿Is every one on holiday or ignoring me??

I have asked qs. given out stuff and replied.

¡¡¡¡Yet no one speaks!!!!

You don't appear to be User:Missingno, and I can't find your question -- how can we help you? Luna Santin 21:45, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for signing in, but please keep a civil tone in your messages. It doesn't do anybody much good to yell at Wikipedia's helpers. If you need to use a {{helpme}} in the future, please attach a question to it -- even if you've asked your question somewhere else on the page, having the question right there makes it easier for the person responding to your request. Thanks. Luna Santin 21:56, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

One, but it will take care of itself.

edit

Image:Polly walker 11.jpg is likely a violation of fair use - but the image has no verifiable source or license info, so it will be deleted from Wikipedia entirely in a week. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have deleted this image as it was a higher resolution duplicate of Image:Cine Polly-Walker Roma-07.jpg. You can read more about the source and fair use criteria for using tv screenshots at the page for that image. —WAvegetarian(talk) 19:07, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

I've blocked you for a month. Please read WP:NOT, especially this section, and think about whether you have anything to offer an encyclopedia. This is not MySpace. I am now going to block the account you've just created for your gallery of pictures of women. --ajn (talk) 18:52, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Why have I been blocked? I have been editing several things yet I get no credit for any of it. Yes,I have been playing around on my userpage, but that is no reason to block me. So Why? Please explain this to me. I have not been "My spacing" or personal wab paging. I lost a page i was creating it was pretty intersting(from the create me page list). Sorry if i did something wrong but I do not know what I did wrong. In advance, thank you for your consideration on this matter, Happy Editing!!, Missingno

Decline reason:

Sorry, I'm declining your request. You were warned about your behavior several times, and have already been blocked. You aren't here for any useful purpose, so why should we bother unblocking you? If you want to contribute to Wikipedia (you know, this encyclopedia that this site is all about), you may do so in a month when your block expires. Mangojuicetalk 01:38, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Just one thought. Having analyzed your activity on wikipedia since July, i can not help wondering about your pertinaciousity. As i recall, you strongly stated [[1]] that you work for the FBI. I would appreciate if you could tell me whether that statement is false or true. It is just a mere curiosity of mine determined by the fact that your activity on wikipedia does not match some standards of behaviour i usually associate them with the FBI.89.32.1.82 09:00, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
