Anarcho genre edit

Thanks for restoring the genre on the Crass page. If you wouldn't mind keeping an eye on it, I'd appreciate it. This guy is seriously beginning to annoy me.  Channel ®   23:44, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

He's perhaps done the right thing now by raising this on the Talk page for anarcho-punk - you may want to contribute to the discussion there. If consensus is reached that we keep it as a genre, then that should be the end of it.--Michig (talk) 06:21, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see you already have - I would suggest a couple of weeks should be sufficient to reach a consensus view.--Michig (talk) 06:24, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP Computing edit

Greetings. You are receiving this note as you are a member of this WikiProject. Currently there is not much of activity in the project and I am hoping to revive the project with your help. I have made a few changes to the project page Diff. You are welcome to make suggestions of improvement / changes in the design. I have also make a proposal to AutoTagg articles with {{WikiProject Computing}} for the descendant wikiprojects articles also. Downfall (band) edit

Thanks for the note on my talk page. I usually check the history, but obviously not carefully enough in this case. There are too many unchecked pages like this - I've found some that have been "re-written," both as good faith and as vandalism and not been reverted for over a year! It's a total weakness of WP. comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blueboy (band) edit

Hello Michig!

I think that you should know that while your original comments were not directed at me, and while I would not say that anything you wrote violated WP:CIVILITY, I would say that the tone of your writing was not in keeping with WP:AGF, whether that was your intention or not; and I am saying this strictly as an outsider. When someone nominates an article for AfD, it is quite possible that they do so without fully realizing that the article was fine. Goodness knows I did that once before. What happened: a few editors heaped a torrent of abuse on me for nominating something that was to them so obviously notable, when in my eyes was absolutely not notable. I have never again bothered to nominate an article again. I would ask that you keep this in mind. The particular criteria that are establishing the notability are not the most commonly used criteria for assuming notability in this area. My two bits of worthless advice: if you have a problem with someone nominating an article in the future, educate them .... explain why they made a mistake. Have a good day. LonelyBeacon (talk) 10:10, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for arguing for and improving the Blueboy (band) page so quickly - you beat me to it (I'm the guy who asked for it to be restored.) With respect to the discussion about it, including the above admonition, I specifically pointed out to Stephen that it should be restored on the grounds that it satisfied the "two albums on a significant indie label" criterion, so I am puzzled why he would restore it and then immediately nominate it for deletion... Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Straight No Talk edit

Hello Michig, I see you have been commenting on the deletion of the Straight No Talk article. I know it's not easily verifiable once the show archive is taken off the BBC website, however, Gilles Peterson mentioned Straight No Talk as "legendary" on his September 4, 2008 Worldwide show on BBC Radio 1. It came in the 2 minute discussion around the 58th minute of the show. As some might regard Gilles as influential in the music biz, I thought it might be relevant in the discussion about the deletion of the article. Seems to me the article just needs improvement. Hey, just wanted to say that's nice to see not only someone try to improve the article first in a deletion discussion, but then also to be able to go back and change your mind rather than sticking to your guns is impressive, too. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 15:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are on the right track.... NYT and AMG did not use the same review. edit

The NYTimes source actually IS a Reliable Source in this instance. It certainly does contain a review written by Jason Buchanan of All Movie Guide, but All Movie Guide does NOT contain that review. They have their own concerns for COI and their reviewers often write outside reviews that they cannot use themselves. That makes this review independent and unique from AMG. Honorific titles edit

I had to remove you addition on the grounds that no page numbers were given, it would be near impossible to find the page numbers for the alleged honorific title and other info. If you could reinstate it with page numbers (particularly for the title) that would be very helpful. — Realist2 13:25, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, you could have just requested page numbers. Most of the book cited is in encyclopedia format with artists listed alphabetically, so it would be incredibly easy to find it. I'll reinstate it with page numbers, although I believe the title is already also sourced in the Dennis Brown article.--Michig (talk) 13:42, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lotus (rock band) edit

Strongly (but respectfully) disagree. No indication of signing by a major label or significant indie. Article is promotional in nature with peacock terms. The article in its current state indicates little more than a college band. A speedy-tag was easy to justify, and I would do it again without hesitation. I'll keep an eye on this article for now, with an eye toward deletion via prod or AfD if things don't improve. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 18:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Kendra Smith edit

A tag has been placed on Kendra Smith requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Fatal!ty (T☠LK) 09:43, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

As you are on attribution removal patrol... edit

To be fair I am not going to list all of the several thousand Wikipeadia articles that contain images (including image of paintings and other works of art) that are attributed but to get you started here are some of them. As you want to be the attribution expert I expect you will be busy removing not only my photo credits but these, and the other several thousand I have not listed, as well.

Article with images that have photo credit edit

  1. Photojournalism
  2. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima
  3. Joe Rosenthal (Article on a photojournalist, with photos. Better remove all credits and mentions of any images he took and why not send the article to AfD for "Blatant attribution" too)
  4. Fred Reid
  5. New York's Village Halloween Parade (See also Photo credits)
  6. Days of Rage
  7. Huỳnh Công Út
  8. Stewart Shining (An article about a photographer so you might want to do a AfD nom for this too)
  9. Rick Benjamin (conductor)
  10. Marie Daulne
  11. Joe Cocker (album) (See "Art & Photo Credits")
  12. Rille
  13. William Thompson (New York)
  14. Josué Sánchez
  15. Sylvia (ballet)
  16. Médanos (geology)
  17. Henri Cartier-Bresson
  18. Streptanthus niger
  19. Still Pending
  20. James L. Jones
  21. Belgian Naval Component
  22. Jeffrey Morgan
  23. Mount Ararat (Pennsylvania) (See "References")
  24. NS 50 Years Since Victory
  25. United States Air Force Academy
  26. Douglas Hopkins (Article on a photographer. Another AfD nom for you to make)
  27. Budd Dwyer
  28. Itezhi-Tezhi Dam
  29. Tania Libertad
  30. Melody Thomas Scott
  31. The Rolling Stones (album) (Contains the line "The album cover photo was taken by David Bailey")
  32. David Bailey (photographer) (Another article on a photographer)
  33. Ultimate Kylie (See Album credits)
  34. North Sea
  35. Tom Wilkes (See Album Cover Credits for a list of album cover photo credits)
  36. Ira Hayes
  37. United States Marine Corps (Not only attribution for the photographs but for the images of paintings as well. And I bet if you look close the paintings have some sort of embedded attribution as well)
  38. Franklin Sousley
  39. Rene Gagnon
  40. Hearts and Minds (film)
  41. Tiananmen Square
  42. Tank Man
  43. Jeff Widener (Yet another case of "Blatant attribution")
  44. The Falling Man (Article contains the lead line of text "The Falling Man" is a story about a photograph taken by Richard Drew at 9:41:15 a.m., on September 11, 2001.")
  45. Andrew Diey
  46. Enfin Réunis (See Additional credits)

No need to reply or thank me for the help in locating all of these violations. When you get done with the images you should start on song article because these article give attribution to the artists who recorded them as well to the labels that released them. Then you can start on all article about films as they may give attribution to the producers, directors and studios involved. Oh, and I almost overlooked the issue of having any artwork that has any form of attribution on it - such as an album cover that may have the name of the artists on it. I am sure you will figure it out though. Just being helpful Soundvisions1 (talk) 00:30, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is rather silly, don't you think? --Michig (talk) 06:54, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your hard work is about to be deleted from Wikipedia edit

The article you created, Destructors 666 is about to be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. travb (talk) 02:26, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shoegaze and scene that celebrates itself edit

hi, I guess I don't mind retaining the "scene that celebrates itself" article, but the talk page discussion is generally negative about retaining it as a separate article. I hadn't read the AfD log, but I should have. As to "shoegazing" vs. "shoegaze" -- the discussion on the talk page seems to resolve in favor of "shoegaze", as do the most relevant sources.

Sorry for making unilateral changes - I didn't realize the controversy. I'm trying to improve the article using the December issue of XLR8R, which is reasonably comprehensive. Thanks for not reverting my other additions. Let me know if you find anything else problematic. Aryder779 (talk) 19:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
