Welcome! edit

Hello, Michaelberke, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Speedy deletion nomination of Michael Berke edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Michael Berke requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://zagria.blogspot.ca/2011/02/michael-berke-1964-roadie.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Comments and advice edit

First of all, a comment about the nomination of your article for deletion for copyright reasons. As you no doubt know, the content already appears in at lest two places: on blogspot (as mentioned above) and at http://www.sexualenhancements.org/article/923084423/michael-berke-1964-roadie-/. That page bears the copyright notice "© Copyright 2015-2017 sexualenhancements.org", but even if it didn't, Wikipedia's copyright policy is that we do not accept content copied from other sources unless we have proof that there is copyright release. Even if you own the copyright, you need to provide us with evidence that you do. Also, by posting content to Wikipedia, you declare that you are licensing it for free reuse by anyone in the world, either unchanged or modified in any way whatever, for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, subject to attribution to Wikipedia. Whether the copyright is owned by sexualenhancements.org, as they claim, by you, or by someone else, is the copyright owner really willing to license it under such free terms?

Secondly, the page was not really suitable as a Wikipedia article anyway, as it was written more like an essay or magazine article than like an encyclopaedia article. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start.

Thirdly, assuming you really are Michael Berke, as your user name indicates, Wikipedia strongly discourages anyone from writing an article about themselves. That is because it is very difficult to stand back from oneself and write from a neutral point of view. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:49, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Help edit

I understand that pages should not be self-written. Is there someone out there that might want to help by reading the news articles about me out there and then properly edit this page, please?

The Wikipedia:Help_desk may be able to advise you. Siuenti (talk) 22:37, 11 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
