Jingle Networks Repost

This is my first time adding an article to Wikipedia. I was planning on entering a short description and adding more later. Apparently, I should have created a more complete entry before first posting. I will repost with more information shortly. My main impetus for posting is that I (along with many friends) use the service several times per week.

I tried to look up pornographic actress Sasha Grey, only to see that the page had been deleted and protected. Please reconsider your choice to protect the page--for someone just a few months into the industry, she had made a tremendous impact, moreso than some of the other porn actresses with articles in Wikipedia. Hello Merope,

I don't understand why you keep deleting my important article on Philip Cairns. The Cairns case has been of significant importance in highlighting the issue of missing children in modern Ireland. If you look at the topic of "missing children" in Wikipedia you will see reference to the Australian case of Montana Barbaro, stolen in Melbourne. The Cairns case has major political significance.

Why deleting my pages?

Hi. I'd like to ask why are you deleting my page about Jonas Freitas. In the first time, the article was quite small and I could understand it, but in the second time it wasn't. Jonas Freitas is a widely respected guy, and despite not being a public person, I think he deserves a biography in Wikipedia. What's wrong about that??

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

rejection of post for 'business data quality'

Dear Merope, Thanks for your last message concerning my posting of Business Data Quality. Apologies, if you interpreted this posting to be a piece of advertisement as this was not my intention - all I was intending to do was to provide some clear factual information about the company.

In my attempt to comply with Wikipedia's policies I reviewed two Wikipedia posts for companies in a similar field to BDQ - Business Objects (Company) and Dataflux. I felt that my entry was similar in tone and content to these and, therefore, am a little surprised that it has been rejected.

I would, therefore, be most grateful if you can help me understand how my post deviates from these precedent sites in order that I can create a more appropriate post.

Best regards,

Alan.

help please - you're deleting the article I just posted

Hi,

I recently wrote a piece on some software called Portrait Professional. I have received your message saying that it has been tagged for speedy deletion. In the piece I have placed as much negative comment as positive, and I have focused heavily on the "how it works" comment because this is quite interesting stuff. I have made no reference to how much it costs, I haven't tried to promote it, I haven't even placed any links to the product's website.

So basically I'm not quite sure why it's flagged for deletion. I'd like to put a page on Wikipedia which describes it fairly and in a way which you find acceptable - can you please give me some tips so that I can get it right?!

Many thanks.

Ethanol (band) Article Deletion

Dear Merope,

It seems unfortunate that this article has been deleted. It has been stated that what is stated in the article is not important. As a member of Ethanol and the band's manager, I would like to ask why a band that exists to tell people about AIDS, world hunger, and is very much multinational is not of any consequence. Also, please do not delete the article again until you reply to this message.

Thank You in Advance, Ian Brown McCarthy Ethanol Band Manager

Initial Entry for Insight Enterprises

Hello,

This link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insight_enterprises) is my first entry, and I believe I've met all the standards for writing an article. I've tried my best to not post marketing drivel and only post facts and link appropriately. If there's an opportunity to improve it or if I've done something wrong, please re-post the FAQs that I apparently didn't read correctly.

Thanks, -Bob K.

Ethanol (band) Article Deletion

Dear Merope,

You state the article lacks 'notability'. I am involved in the music industry, and have been for many years, as both a member of bands and a band manager for several bands. Besides Lordi, a Finnish rock band that dresses as monsters, I am aware of very few bands that are not American or British that write songs in English. I am aware of even fewer bands that are international and work to tell people about the world and the world's problems. Ethanol is one of those bands. How is that not notable is difficult to understand. Furthermore, according to article 7 of the reasons for speedy deletion, it states that if an article claims notability it cannot be deleted as you have done. Twice.

When it comes to a neutral point of view, I can quite easily have the band manager of another band in our area log on and write the article. There will be no difference.

I believe I have responded to both of you statements.

Ian McCarthy

User Page

Dear Merope,

If we create a user page, can it be deleted without notice? If it is not 'notable' can it be deleted the same way a standard article can? We am trying to create an article for Ethanol without it being deleted.

Hi

Could you please take a look at the Martial Race article particularly, the Modern Usage section as there is contradictions in the article, Iduleguy says something and when you got to verity his sources the claims state otherwise. Please see discussion of the article. This is my diff here and is consistent with the sources, his diffs contradict the sources in which he is taking some comments out of context and adding his own commentary to the article. Edit* He is also removing the {{disputed}} tag on the section and removing my information. He is only doing this as when you actually read the links (citation) its nothing like what he trying to state in the article on wiki. He is clearly deliberately embellishing the truth and adding his own commentary. --StreetScholar 14:49, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • If you do read it, please take time to read complete articles on the four India Pakistan Wars (atleast the 1965 and Bangladesh liberation war which was about the misuse of the martial races theory) and then the citations given in the martial race article to arrive at a complete picture. I fear Street Scholar is doing injustice to historical writing by not even reading the sources provided and misreading (if he does read i.e.) one line for another. He claims that i said 65 and 47 wars were drubbings to Pakistan, when clearly, I have said it is only 71 war. Street Scholar expects to have even the sources read out, line by line and wants only online sources, which is incredulous. btw, he is also racially and religously biased IMO, with statements like "idolaters" being used, not mentioned in the original cite. Idleguy 19:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • I'll take a look at it when I get a chance (which, given my own personal backlog of messages and stuff I need to address, may take a while). I assume you've been talking about this situation on the talk page already. You might want to request mediation, since this seems like a strongly contested issue. -- Merope 19:18, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not sounding impatient, but mediation takes months, if not years. :D Me and another author submitted for mediation for Richard Nixon but by the time it came, the issues were resolved as other editors agreed with me on the content since it was sourced from reliable publishings anyways. But i'm not pestering you though. Idleguy 19:55, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, yeah, I know. :) I'll try to look at it now -- I think I've talked to everyone whose article I deleted in the past 24 hours. ;) -- Merope 20:08, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Idleguy, is still editing the article despite you said not to edit it for at least 24 hrs. Now the modern usage section just looks like a joke, he even manged to get this in "Based on this belief in the martial supremacy - not too dissimilar to the Nazi ideology of a Master race - it was popularly hyped that one Pakistani soldier was equal to four to ten Hindus/Indian soldiers". --StreetScholar 12:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
So you find information that doesn't confirm to your racial supremacy theories etc. a joke? Well done. I suppose reliable sources are also an equal comic relief for the "Street Scholar". First read sources and involve an admin from the sucontinent who'll easily relate to this. Idleguy 13:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portrait Professional

Hi Merope, and thanks for your reply. I have read through your guidelines on software notability and I believe that Portrait Professional most certainly qualifies. It has been independently commented on and reviewed at length by the UK's Guardian newspaper (a prominent broadsheet), also by the BBC's very popular website, by New Scientist online, and has further been reviewed and discussed in both editorial articles and forums pertaining to the photographic industry. I would be happy to provide links to these should you require verification.

Essentially this is a brand new area of technology development which is only being done by two small groups of statistical mathematicians on the planet, which is why I think it's both interesting for those who like to keep a pulse on technology, and also noteworthy in its own right as a milestone achievement.

I would agree that my prose can sound like marketing language - unfortunately I'm a marketing professional and it's very hard to change my natural style! I'd like another shot at this to make it sound more wikified, so should I submit this to you first for approval or just go ahead and post it in the hope that I've met all the relevant criteria?

Thanks again - Jameswilson111 10:04, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

GLOBEC article deletion

Dear Merope,

Thank you for your interest in the GLOBEC article, however, I would like to appeal against deletion of the article.

GLOBEC is an international research programme studying the interactions between the marine ecosystem and climate change. The project has been operating since 1991, is well known among the marine science community and does not operate on a profit making basis.

GLOBEC science has contributed to well over 2000 refereed publications to the scientific literature, has provided advice on climate change to governments and policy makers and actively contributes to the global debate on climate change. As such the article was not intended to act as an advertisement for our science but rather to educate users about global change science.

Unfortunately this was my first attempt at a Wikipedia article and I saved the article before it was fully complete as hopefully it would have been clear from the remainder of the article that this was not intended promote a profit making enterprise.

Jake and Steve Show deletion

For the sake of disclosure, I am the original author of this article.

Thank you for taking the time to review the newly-listed page for The Jake and Steve Show. I have objected to your recommendation for deletion by editing out the tag as instructed.

There is a strong existing precedent for the Jake and Steve Show stub within the Radio Shows category. Please, for example, see:

Kevin and Trudie | A & J Show | Pugs and Kelly | The Steve Cochran Show | The Joan Kenley Show | The Jay & Kevin Show | The Dudley & Bob Show

These are only a small percentage of the Wiki articles that are similar to the Jake and Steve Show. While I understand how you may perceive The Jake and Steve Show article to fall under the guidelines of Non-notability, I would like to assert that each of the above shows (and many others) likely appeal to a limited or narrow range of people, may not be "newsworthy," and still exist peacefully on Wikipedia.

As the only morning drive-time radio program on a college campus of 25,000 people, in a town of only 70,000 residents, it is arguable that the show's audience is potentially a full third of the population of its entire market. It is hard to know if many of the listed shows have as proportional an audience in their market. As a result, it is feasible that this show appeals to a relatively broad range of people in its market. Please also note that there was an apparent edit by a user listed only by IP address. After conducting a whois: search for the IP address, it is listed as being located in Virginia, several hundred miles away for the location of the radio show and well-outside its broadcast range. This seems to indicate there are several independent sources (myself and this other person in less than 24 hours!) who may be interested in contributing to the article. This is a MAJOR test for notability, and this article passed it within its first day. Because of this, it cannot be satisfactorily determined that the show is non-notable for lack of appeal.

As for "newsworthy," the show's hosts also write a regular column for the campus newspaper, the Crimson White, a Columbia Scholastic Press Crown Award-winning paper with a circulation nearing 14,000 copies four days a week. This is a larger distribution than many small town newspapers in the entire United States, and it would be foolish to argue that those papers don't cover topics that are "newsworthy" within their intended audience. Through this article, they generate campus discussion and debate through entertaining writing. They often use their radio show as the crux of the articles. For evidence of the debate, feel free to read the article feedback available at Crimson White Online. As a result, it is arguable they are "newsworthy" within their sphere of influence in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Because of this, it cannot be satisfactorily determined that the show is non-notable for lack of "newsworthiness."

I ask that you please reconsider your recommendation for deletion as I believe I have established that the article and its subject meet the test for notability.

I welcome your response and feedback.

Did you have any trouble accessing Wikipedia yesterday? I ask because I was in the middle of editing when the site suddenly stopped working. Clarification on "CSD A7"

Hi,

I posted my first article today after a lot of lurking on Wikipedia. You deleted it for "csd A7".

After reviewing the Criteria for Speedy Deletion, I'd like to resubmit the article successfully.

What I need to understand is what is different about my article as compared to other articles about companies such as Yelp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yelp), Zend (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zend_Technologies), and so forth? Obviously, in some cases company profiles are allowed.

I used the two companies cited as my model in an attempt to come as close to acceptable the first time around. One thing I do note is that Yelp has more External Links, particularly third-party articles. I can add such external citations if that is the difference maker.

Hello, I have tried on several occasions to add a page about DARDA, Dominica American Relief and Development Association to Wikipedia, yet it continues to get deleted. I am the webmaster for darda.org, a member of the organization, and I created ALL the content (text) on the website. Therefore, it is not a copyright violation for me to use my own work (with permission from DARDA) to add to the Wikipedia page. I stated this in the DARDA talk the first time it was deleted yet when I tried to recreate the article, it was deleted a second time. On my third attempt, I reworded the text, cited the material (references to darda.org) and claimed ownership of content. It was up for a few day but I noticed today that it had, again, been deleted. You deleted article about JDTS

Can you explain for me why did you deleted page about JDTS product of Sun Microsystems? As I understood from Italic textBlatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Note that simply having a company, product, group or service as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion: an article that is blatant advertising should have inappropriate content as well. If a page has previously gone through deletion process and was not deleted, it should not be speedily deleted under this criterion. you deleted as advertisement article? can you explain in this case why WP has artcile about java? about TCK? about Mono? JDTS is part of JME ecosystem and,i think, can be placed in WP for explaining quality testcycles in Java Microedition core. RomanGrigoryev

Why are these pages NOT considered blatant advertising?

Just a quick note to let you know that I've recreated the MMMuffins article that you just speedy deleted. I had put the {{hangon}} template on it, but the article was gone in the time it took me to do anything beyond adding the template. Agent 86 18:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion help

Hello. We just posted an article on Eddie Harrison and it has been deleted. We want to know why and how we can get the article back up as we feel he deserves the page and is a credible subject.

Also, one of the reasons you gave was that we didn't credit the sources - so how do you do that?

Thanks a lot, Viva Cuba Discos.

Why did you delete Rob Blackburn?

Thank you for declining SD for 12 Days (manga)

I hope to make it a worthwhile article. Kyaa the Catlord 14:16, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am wondering why you deleted my post called yourminis?

I added a post called yourminis which was subsequently deleted by you. I am curious why this was the case and what I need to do so that it does not get deleted?

Thank you for your help.

A silly request

Hi, Merope. Someone helpfully protected my userpage against vandalism. Except, the vandalism kind of amuses me. Would I be nuts if I asked to have my userpage unprotected? (You're my very favorite admin. I'm a member of the We Heart Merope fan club). -FisherQueen 19:33, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Sheffield Pop Art

Why did you feel it necessary to delete Sheffield Pop Art, the page may not seem notable to you, but to members of the company and stakeholders in the company it is notable. Surely their website demonstrates the fact that this is a real company.

When do you suggest i recreate it then? Also, seeing as there is already a Silverdale School article and a Young Enterprise Article can it not be seen as notable on the basis that it is an example of the Young Enterprise Scheme and linked to Silverdale School. I am also having difficulty seeing why it is necessary to delete an article which isnt blatant advertising, offensive or untruthful. I had the impression that Wikipedia was happy for users to create new articles. The few KB of text i added surely cant damage Wikipedia. --King simmy 20:01, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Intruder X article

Hello Merope, I am replying to your post on my talk page in regards to the article Intruder X being deleted. I am a newbie pretty much, and I have noticed a whole bunch of other people posting here on your talk page about you deleting their articles. I have read over the criteria and such, including the section about notable articles. So I just want to be given a simple explanation about what I need to do so that I can keep the article, please and thank you. Intruder X is a real band. It has real fans and a great following. There is not much about them online, however, at least nothing I can find. There have been articles about the band in local papers recently, but as for the specific who, what and when in regards to the papers, I don’t know that either. If you want solid proof, we will gladly send you a copy of their CD so that you and the other Administrators are aware that Intruder X is indeed notable. If you may, post a reply on my talk page. This way I can do the article right and so it is notable. If you do want a copy of the CD, I don’t know if you’d have to give me the address to Wikipedia Headquarters, but like I said I will gladly do that for you. Thanks for the help, and sorry it took so long for a reply to your post. -- CardDuelWars Talk 02:33, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi there; I was just sending this user a message (you will have seen that I prodded his article, which you speedied). He is a newby, that was his first article, he has not been welcomed (which I was doing), and I suggest, with respect, that just sending the standard template, which would have been wholly in order had an experienced user been involved, is slightly against WP:BITE. How can I send a welcome when he's just had his first attempt, which amittedly needed deletion but was not vandalism, erased?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthony.bradbury (talkcontribs)

Proposed deletion of the Friendship Forum Page

With respect, please compare the "Friendship Forum" page which is proposed to be deleted with the "The Friendship Page" page which is allowed. Personally, I don't see very much difference between the two pages other than one is entitled Friendship Forum and the other is not. c.f. "Pen Pals" which I edited prior to registration and included Friendship Forum from which I created the new page. Thank you. kewl1uk

I do not wish to appeal against the decision since an Editor's decision is good enough. However my intention was not to advertise Friendship Forum but to include information about an aspect in the pen pal culture which is hitherto neglected if not omitted. It was my understanding that a page is edited and developed by the Wiki users: Hence my leaving the page for editing and developing by Wiki users more knowledgable than I. Thank you for reading this. No reply is necessary. Kewl1uk 15:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mavericks for Football Now

What should I do to make the page acceptable to be on Wikipedia. It is a Student Organization at the University of Texas at Arlington and we would like to use this page for people to know what the Organization is here for and what we are doing. An encyclopedia is normally used for finding out background information on a given topic, so say a student at the University of Texas at Arlington wanted to find out more about this group, They could go online and search for "Mavericks for Football Now" and get a hit back from Wikipedia, which is a very reliable source of information and trusted, and get all the answers they need.

If you could help me figure out a way to keep this information acceptable to you and your team, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, --Macj214284 15:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, just got your message. This actress has made several TV appearences, mainly in dramas e.g. Midsomer Murders, and she has an entry at the Internet Movie Database. Other info about her might also be available. Does this satisfy the notability criteria? Eddy 15:23, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Michael Harley - question on deletion

Hello Merope,

This listing is up for deletion. I am doing this article for my husband and I am honestly not trying to promote his business in any way. I am solely trying to substantiate him being an entrepreneur. I will be glad to remove any links to the website if need be. Just let me know. Thank you for your consideration. It would be nice to be part of wikipedia.

Nationwide Paintball deletion

Hi there Merope,

I'm pretty new to Wikipedia and wasn't trying to make my article one that advertised the company any more than the Wikipedia entry for other companies, like Microsoft. I would like Nationwide Paintball to be listed on Wikipedia for people who come here looking for information about the company, how would I go about this?

Thanks

Medium Pimpin & Live Prayer

Hi Merope,

I guess my article about Medium Pimpin is NN so I will give up.

I would like to ask you about the article on Live Prayer however. Yesterday I added a section about a number of prank calls to the show which had been made by TOTSE members. It seems this is quite controversial and there was a lot of vandalism in the article after I added this section.

Now the section has been removed. Why was it removed? There was nothing wrong with it, it cited references.

Is Wikipedia influenced by vandalism? If enough outraged forum users vandalize Wikipedia will we hide the truth? Surely isn't right.

I'd add the section again, but I can't because this is a new account and I lost the password to my old account.

Could you perhaps add it for me? (^_^)

Article Removal

Hi Merope and thank you for your welcome message!

I am really sorry, I wasn't aware you didn’t have the permission to list company information on Wikipedia.

To be honest, this puzzles me a little. I am not sure I fully understand the difference between my article and the one about Casino de Montréal, Reader Digest, Apple Computer and, well, the long list of company information available on Wikipedia. Even products are well documented and promoted on Wikipedia, like Microsoft BizTalk, phpBB, Urchin (a software) and so many more.

I guess the company I suggested wasnt public enough to be listed on Wikipedia.

I can’t imagine how hard it is for you to keep track of all that, so just clarify this and I will make all effort possible to respect your editorial guideline and list only information, company or product you wish to promote to the general public.

Sorry for my English, Best regards!

Trappers Cabin

Regarding this, you must be kidding. How is being in a non-notable documentary (no matter whom it documents) an assertion of notability? If I made a five-second documentary on you that stated "Merope is a Wikipedia administrator and a good person," then put it on YouTube, the article about me couldn't get speedied? In addition, in your edit summary, you admit that the band/person does not pass WP:MUSIC, so why not 1) prod it or 2) attempt to add sources / assertions of significance to it? -- Kicking222 05:19, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
