British vs. US spelling edit

Hi, Maxim! I reverted all your spelling changes to the articles. As per this Wikipedia guideline, spellings should not be changed from British to American (or vice versa) unless strong national ties to the topic exist. In all other cases, the spelling chosen by the first major contributor should be used. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 7, 2010; 14:58 (UTC)

Maxim, once again, please do not change the spelling for no other reason than your personal preference, as you did here. If you are not sure how WP:ENGVAR applies, please ask around and when in doubt, simply leave the spelling already used in the article (and try to use the same spelling when adding bits). Thanks.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); July 8, 2010; 13:43 (UTC)

You are quite right on the first two points and yes, of course you can use a variant of English of your choice when creating content. The caveat you are missing is that in articles without US/UK ties (such as those about Russia) you are expected to conform with the variant the first major contributor to that article chose. If the article is already using the US spelling, you are expected to use US spelling as well, even if you are expanding the article ten-fold. It just so happens that most of the existing articles about Russia use the US spelling, which is why I run into the necessity of correcting your edits so often. Hope this clarifies the issue. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); July 8, 2010; 18:37 (UTC)
Just wanted to remind you that the above still stands. Thanks.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); March 28, 2011; 14:56 (UTC)
Yes, but that variant is supposed to be the one which the first major contributor to the article had chosen.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); March 28, 2011; 19:04 (UTC)

June 2010 edit

In a recent edit to the page Sergey Mironov, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you. RolandR (talk) 15:05, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

More violations of WP:ENGVAR edit

Hi. It's long past time for you to stop changing American spellings to British spellings when the article doesn't satisfy the requirements of WP:ENGVAR as you did at Polish Immortal. This has been explained to you several times, so you need to modify your behavior. Quale (talk) 07:43, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Still more violations of WP:ENGVAR edit

Please read, understand, and follow the requirements of WP:ENGVAR. You don't edit very much, but you insist on violating this guideline repeatedly anyway as you did yet again at Russian Chess Federation. Quale (talk) 03:53, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Chessvegas edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Chessvegas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Colofac (talk) 08:59, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please note, The article that was created when you moved the page (Chessvegas to ChessVegas) has been deleted, the deletion notice on the page listed above has changed in that it now requests the deletion of a page that redirects to content no longer on Wikipedia. Thanks Colofac (talk) 09:11, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
