Dr Ian Wardlaw Fletcher was a descended from the 19th Baronet Scotland .Dr Ian Fletcher was born in North Finchley in the Borough of Barnett London . His father Henry Wardlaw Left for Australia who went to Australia in 1925

Dr Ian Fletcher at Queen Mary's Hospital Roehampton where he worked as an orthopedic surgeon until he sustained an injury to his eye. He then went on to work with patient rehabilitation. Fletcher encountered waves of different limb injuries which required prosthetics - veterans from the war, polio-effected children and then in 1961-62 babies with a new kind of limb deficiency - children whose mothers had taken the drug thalidomide during pregnancy. Fletcher talks about the initial reaction to the large numbers of thalidomide-affected children and the challenges this suddenly presented to his practice. Find out more:
