Hi, Matt ke, Welcome to Wikipedia!
edit

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips edit

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

TransLink (South East Queensland) services edit

Thanks for putting the hide/show structure that you have done with the services page. It has significantly cut down on loading times on the page. --Arnzy (whats up?) 03:33, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, excellent job. My mark-up skills would not have been up to the task of making the page that presentable, so your assistance is appreciated. Looks heaps better. SM247My Talk 04:25, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Thanks, I hope it won't get removed and/or deleted. Although when it does happen removing the routes details and replace it by a more general one like 100-199 are the southern suburb services, etc. should still be alright I guess. ;) Matt ke 06:40, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate what you are trying to improve the TL Bus Stations infobox, but is the next stations thing necessary? as we already got one template for it as per below.

  • Yes, the reason for doing that is because there are too many templates down there, and everyone looks different. I want to see if there by any chances moving some templates together.Matt ke 07:45, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Regarding the CityTrain box, I think Wheelchair access seems to be the appropriate name as per the official QR/Translink maps. --Arnzy (whats up?) 12:21, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The name of the blocking admin, which is Misza13
The reason you were blocked, which is:

G'day Matt, if you're interested, I'm currently working on a Busways in Brisbane general article before its be posted onto the wikipedia mainspace. unblock|I don't exactly ask for a unblock. But if this IP address 203.213.7.133 which is the same as mine is always vandalising and getting blocked I will just refrain myself from editing because every once in a while I came up with an idea but only to see being blocked and restricted from contributing, when the time has come for unblock I already lost my ideas. It is just very frustrating to see that happens every now and then.}}

It should be fixed now. If there is any problem please feel free to reinstate the unblock template. --WinHunter (talk) 07:40, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

CityTrain template edit

If the template is going to be based on the others, I'd suggest creating a new template for now and work off that, as the CityTrain template is slightly different (ie the different lines shown and so forth) --Arnzy (talk ·  contribs) 11:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've merged infoboxes for the southside lines stations EXCEPT for the Ipswich to Milton section. The question is whether to label that particular section as Ipswich / Rosewood, as Rosewood is really a Ipswich-Rosewood shuttle and the Rosewood shuttle was in the Ipswich timetable before the recent new timetable release last month.
IMO, it would be better off naming the Ipswich to Milton station infoboxes as the Ipswich / Rosewood Line. Theres no point putting 2 lines when Rosewood direct trains only run in peak --Arnzy (talk ·  contribs) 12:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Corinda via Sth Bris, Ipswich/Rosewood, Shorncliffe edit

Corinda via South Brisbane is the colloquial name for the Tennyson Line, as its referred to as that at stations, and in the timetables as well. I'm considering shifting the article to that name as its usually referred to that rather than Tennyson Line.

As for Shorncliffe, that would be a good idea as they operate through to South Bank on Weekends/Public Holidays.

But Rosewood, the handful of direct trains that run during peak operate in so many stopping patterns its not funny. It's best safe keeping it as Ipswich / Rosewood, with perhaps the (limited through services) sign at Ipswich Station. --Arnzy (talk ·  contribs) 13:25, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would be best to either just say "Ipswich Line" with a note about Rosewood under the 'Services by Platform' section, or either just stick to "Ipswich/Rosewood", as the stopping pattern for the limited Rosewood direct trains vary. Those few trains range from all-stoppers, to small limited express patterns (example: express Indooroopilly to Corinda).
The general stopping pattern for Rosewood trains are usually in the form of the shuttle, so it'll be better to notify readers that this is usually the case on the Rosewood line. --Arnzy (talk ·  contribs) 15:14, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

CityTrain infoboxes edit

Hi Matt - I don't care what's on the infobox, I'm suggesting that you get rid of the region as the focus of the infobox. Have a look at most other infoboxes for railway stations around the world - eg. London Underground, HK MTR, CityRail, etc. - the way their place is identified is by the line that they are on, not the region that they are in - that's what a railway station is, after all, on a train line. Perhaps you could integrate what's at the bottom of the infobox into the top? People who don't know about TransLink or CityTrain won't know what it is. It's easy to think "they won't get mixed up" from your perspective, but you do know the area. Most people reading WP don't.

Also, on some of the stations the region coloured box conflicts with the images above it, making it a weird "u" shape type thing. That needs to be fixed. JROBBO 01:37, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Look - I don't care what Sydney's looks like - the page for one is not finished, and I'm going to reduce that line infobox and station infobox at the bottom into one single one anyway. The neighbouring stations box makes sense, as it is on ALL railway stations - take a look for yourself. Please listen to me: I'm making an example that the region will be easily confused with the railway line as it is not the consistent way that Wikipedia has it. It needs changing or rewording at least to avoid inconsistency and confusion by non-Brisbane readers. JROBBO 01:48, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

TL Operator Infobox edit

I have already developed an infobox for information about the operators, but is only currently on Thompsons Bus Service. I assume you mean an infobox at the end of the page, listing all of the different operators like the Caboolture Line infobox, for example. I would be interested in this infobox. Although:
Most of these operators do not have a page, as of yet
Most of the pages (Except CityTrain and Brisbane Transport) are stubs, which mean that they may seem full of infoboxes.
I will try and wirte some more pages on operators (particually in the Northern Region), so that the infobox is not full of red links. Thanks Nicko6 09:31, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

CityTrain Station Infobox edit

I've reworked the infobox around a bit, moved the TL region down beside the TL Zone, and merged some of the facilties (toilets, lift, etc) to an external link. I've already implemented it for trial at Brunswick Street and is also in my sandbox and the link for the template I'm working on is Template:CityTrain_Station_alt_2.

What I might try to do is probably highlight the TL region which is shifted down the box to make the background go the particular color of the region involved, that way readers dont confuse the region for a train line (per most other rail infoboxes) --Arnzy (talk ·  contribs) 10:39, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Changes to Infobox Australian Place edit

Hi, just thought I'd better let you know I had to revert the changes made last night. The reason for this was that the template was left in a broken state. If you wish to make changes or put them up for discussion I would suggest raising them at the talk page for the template, as it's become quite a complicated template that handles a number of alternative situations. townsville and Thuringowa edit

hi adding Thuringowa to this page has NOTHING to do with any dispute it is a CITY and that is why I added it the town you said has more people than Thuringowa is a shire so it shouldn't be listed ...like I said Thuringowa is a major city on the highway and when you came from Cairns Thuringowa is the first big city you come to then Townsville and so on. if I had added Ingham,Ayr,HomeHill etc then I could see why you would remove it but for the life of me I can not see how by adding 1 word "Thuringowa" it has come to you saying that it was done because of some stupid debate that has been resolved. and just for the record Thuringowa is not in any way part of Townsville it just shares the border (like a suburb) in the US you go from one city to the next city without any spaces and they don't have a problem. Thuringowa is a major part of this highway because of the Ring Road the highway will bypass Townsville and if you look at all the plans on the Main Roads Website it show and says the Highway has exits in Thuringowa at Riverway drive will also have exits at Harvey Range Road again in Thuringowa city and will meet up with the Bruce Highway at Mt Low again in Thuringowa city this is also why I added it NOT to start a Dispute as you say I am only adding true facts. I wont add it again until I have had a reply from you Thank you —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thuringowacityrep (talkcontribs) 02:02, 3 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

Hey, I'd suggest just add the major ones as on the map in the page and leave the others alone in the infobox, and sure it should be added towards the bottom of the page. Sorry I didn't go through other cases first.

About the infobox, it just list some major places, not shires, cities, boroughs or whatever. Whereas I understand Thuringowa is a city in its own rights, Townsville should be noted as a metropolitan area like Sydney and South East Queensland not a city in that case. HTH matt-(my page-leave me a message) 04:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

no probs mate you make a good point so i am happy with leaving it out of the info box but i will be adding it back to the list down the page a bit as thsi list has Ingham listed so i feel that a city the size of Thuringowa should be listed here thanks Thuringowacityrep (talk

Infobox Australian Place edit

Hey,

I noticed you did some work with WP:IAP although that work made the template unusable. Please test edits before making them when making major changes, at the template is complex and well used (more than 1300 transes). Out of interest, what were you trying to do?

--TheJosh 04:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if I was making a major change, but what I was trying to do. Well let me explain it this way. So there's quite a lot of info like LGA, postcode, etc. The last of which is places (cities, shire, etc.) I was trying to move "Suburbs around xxx" out of the table so it looks like other items like LGA, postcode, etc. I'm sorry my way of testing might not be the best way - there are way too many cases and I can't really go through every single cases, which is why I change the template straight away and see different cases (unfortunately not all). But of course I did look into the codes very carefully before making edits. Sorry about that, next time I will raise the question in talk page. matt-(my page-leave me a message) 04:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sydney Buses routes edit

Hi. I'm not the sort of person who wails at the loss of articles they've edited like they were children, but I think your nominations of the Sydney bus routes were a bit lazy. Each is at a different stage of development. Three are, in my view, unquestionably worthy of keeping. Two are arguable. The rest could probably stand to be merged. If you really want to contribute here, at least put in the time to nominate each thing separately, so this discussion is facilitated. Joestella 09:17, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your point that Wikipedia is not a directory is not lost on me. I would love for the Sydney public transport pages to be shorn of articles that say "this station has two platforms and is in between x and y". The bus lines pages, on the other hand, are intended to deal with history, regulation and infrastructure as well as service levels. Some do and some don't. Since your (legitimate) concerns do not apply to all of the pages, the articles in question are better considered separately. Joestella 17:08, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know anything about Brisbane, but Sydney is difficult to divide. We do have commonly-used region names, but their meaning is vague and contested. Most government departments have their own system of regional boundaries (AHSs, tourist regions, ALCs, etc). Indeed, the Ministry of Transport is at present altering the boundaries of its system. And unlike Brisbane, Sydney is divided into dozens of (sometimes) tiny local government areas. The regionalisation offered by the route numbers is, by contrast, unambiguous. Joestella 17:53, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

City Ferry edit

I agree with you regarding the Moggill, Dutton Park Ferry and other historical services that are no longer running they quiet rightly belong in the Brisbane Ferries page. I am not sure about the Metrolink thing and will check it last time I caught a ferry they still had River Connections uniforms. The links on Brisbane Transport to the City Ferry page certainly need some work most people probably dont want a Mystery tour. I have a list of all Ferries made for Brisbane City Council from 1965 until the last one in 1993 with all their details. Many of these ferries are still in service and it would probably be more suited to the Cityferry, Brisbane page what do you think? --Matt 12:27, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Metrolink Queensland edit

Yes according to their history page they have been contracted since 2003 so if the focus is on current only details then no problem however I work for Brisbane Transport and in 2004 when the translink ticketing system came in River Connections was still contracted to run the ferries and mid 2006 ferry staff were still wearing River Connections uniforms, do you see the problem if someone reads the article then gets on the ferry and it appears someone else is running it whoever is editing the article looks silly. It is possible that Metrolink Queensland operate the ferries and cats and trades as River Connections do you see what I am getting at. I will take a trip on a ferry tommorrow with the opening of the green bridge and I will have the answer either way. The company Transfield - who ultimately own metrolink, and their sister company Tenex are both heavily involved in all public transport infrastructure throughout Australia and their respective websites are worth checking out.Talk to you again soon --Matt 13:54, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
