Hi Matt. Thank you very kindly for your note at Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous)#An open letter to Google. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to leave us a note about the changes to the news search at Google. It was really kind and generous of you to keep us informed and I must thank you for that.

You likely already know this, but the community here at Wikipedia is made up of volunteers. We rely on the generosity of volunteers to update and maintain our articles. As we don't have a budget, we volunteers also rely on others. Google is one of our most valuable resources. We use the Google news search and Google book search for much of the citations in our articles. The standard Google web search is also valuable, but much less so because we need to verify our content with publications written by experts such as those at newspapers and book publishers. The help that Google provides in searching newspapers and books has been invaluable to our volunteer efforts and—as so often happens—we have come to take it for granted. So I wanted to take a minute and let you know that us volunteers at Wikipedia sincerely appreciate the valuable tools that Google has provided us. It has let our project grow in to the well-recognized name that it is and Google has played a significant part in that endeavour. Thank you kindly for your help and understanding. Please also thank the engineers and others at Google that are working on the new news archive search. I look forward to the new search when it becomes available. Hello Matt: I echo the sentiments of the users above, having used Google News archive search often to source Wikipedia articles. Thanks very much for replying at the village pump discussion located here, and for informing the Wikipedia community about the matter. It is much appreciated.
