A policy you need to understand regards American vs. British spelling and so on. If an article is written in American English, it should remain in American English throughout. Likewise with British English. Furthermore, articles about American subjects should be in American English, and vice versa. Chevy Chase is American. Furthermore, it is never acceptable to change a direct quote, as you did on that article.
