Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Marlenekoenig. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Marlene A. Eilers Koenig, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Please also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Contact_us_-_SubjectsJavert2113 (talk; please ping me in your reply on this page) 14:16, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Whether or not you want to be on Wikipedia,

  You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia. 2601:188:180:11F0:6933:484C:120F:CB37 (talk) 14:23, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I do not wish to be on Wikipedia. Information is inaccurate, out of date. Please respect my privacy. Moreover, from another perspective, as a professional librarian, I can assure you that this is a piss poor entry. Not written by a professional. So dated. A bad citation. Please remove thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 14:37, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

The entry is incorrect, out of date by 20 years, and I am not a celebrity. Please remove my inaccurate and out-of-date bio. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 14:44, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

what is an AFD. Use your own name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 14:46, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please respect my wishes .. you are fiddling with my life ... now let me write a bio about you ..

Note: Personal attack against Sadads removed by ToBeFree, after writing the "Welcome back" message. You said that you have "a right to be angry", well sure. That's not the problem. Just please remain civil and do not infringe the rights of others in the process. Thank you.   ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:03, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 15:32, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from personal attacks against other users.
As for your article, you've had our policies explained to you, both today and five years ago, the first time you showed up with complaints about your article. The community discussed your article then and reached no consensus on what to do. (For the record, I said it should be deleted.) The article is now up for discussion again (and again I gave reasons for deleting it). Another ten days for discussion isn't that much to wait after the last half-decade that you let the article stand. —C.Fred (talk) 15:43, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have the right to be angry about a profile that is inaccurate, outdated, with misspellings and was done without permission. A real source, such as Who's Who has a verification process and uses professionals.

Again, someone who does not use their own name ... shameful. Unprofessional. I cannot comment your deletion page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 15:54, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

from another page ... I cannot comment on the comments. AFD> OTRS .. Huh. Someone wrote this bio about me without my permission. So dated, so inaccurate. I have no desire to provide information... None of you use real names. Most recently [74], [75] and [76] after being temporarily blocked. The user wants their bio removed, and other than that has no interest in collaboration with the project. Requesting a longer block and possible disabling of ability to edit own talk page. 2601:188:180:11F0:6933:484C:120F:CB37 (talk) 15:38, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

I would rather we not. The user is justifiably frustrated. I am going to walk away from the computer for a bit, but they should get a chance for the OTRS and AFD cycles to kick in (and not be poked by escalating sanctions). Sadads (talk) 15:43, 28 May 2018 (UTC) That rationale is appreciated, but I don't think the user has the least interest in appreciating policies here. I walked away for a bit, and returned to find her frustration manifested in snide personal attacks. Unless there's indication that she doesn't own the bio and is willing to collaborate, I think it's becoming more appropriate to take further action. 2601:188:180:11F0:6933:484C:120F:CB37 (talk) 15:46, 28 May 2018 (UTC) The article about her is at AfD. I told her to contact OTRS, which handles real life frustration by subjects of articles.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 15:51, 28 May 2018 (UTC) @2601:188:180:11F0:6933:484C:120F:CB37: We don't treat someone with real life concerns about an article as a vandal. We refer them to OTRS and the relevant WP:BLP sections. Concur with Sadads on not making a bad situation even worse.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 15:58, 28 May 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 16:07, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Misspellings, inaccurate and outdated information (by 20 years) ... a terrible entry, would not past muster for Who's who ... Shame on you for such unprofessionalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 14:49, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to update the information instead of deleting it.   About professionality, please do actually read the FAQ. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:01, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

A professional researcher would use their own name. Can't even spell my maiden name .. correct and incorrect .. in entry. So unprofessional. Where is your department with a phone number with a staff ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 15:12, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please read the following page, seriously. It answers all questions I've seen from you so far.   Wikipedia:FAQ/Article_subjects ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:13, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

How can I get rid of the article about myself or my company? We generally aim to improve articles rather than delete them. Saying an article is “bad” (or inaccurate, or biased, or badly written) isn’t reason enough for it to be deleted: we would prefer you try to help us make it better. If you truly feel a subject isn’t notable enough to warrant an article, it may be worth saying that on the talk page.

Read it .. not going to help you make it better. Not going to give you private information about me or more recent information. None of your business. You don't even use your own name ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 15:18, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

The FAQ contains contact information, which you seem to be looking for. I am using and disclosing my real name(!), but this is by no means a requirement. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:20, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Block

edit

I have blocked you for 3 hours for edit warring, and removing content without following community processes for doing so. Moreover, on Wikipedia we have a concept of WP:Edit warring. Your current approach to trying to get the content removed, involves this approach. Moreover, we have no way of knowing that you are who you claim you are in the user name (because anyone can create an account under any name). Therefore continuing to say "I don't want this" doesn't actually provide evidence that this is the case, and isn't a sole rationale for deleting pages, but can be a good part of the argument. Consider relying on some of these policies: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Presumption_in_favor_of_privacy.

However, I am sympathetic of the challenge and concern you have. I have started an article for deletion discussion at: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marlene A. Eilers Koenig (2nd nomination). The block is only for 3 hours, and you can write here on this page during the block. Please take some time to cool down, and then weigh in on the deletion discussion. If you have questions about blocks, please see Wikipedia:Appealing a block. I hope this gets better. Sadads (talk) 14:53, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Oh it is me I know what the A stands for as my middle name or that I do not use my maiden name except for writing or that I have not worked in news for more than 20 years. I am using my own name unlike you who hide.

I see no links for deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 14:58, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for sending the email! As for librarians: they do contribute to Wikipedia, as part of their professional work (see for example, discussions in the blog series listed at the bottom of the page). However, the core reason why Wikipedia works is that anyone can edit, and the policies used to manage that "anyone can edit" environment. I highly recommend watching this video, to better understand why and how this works. Ultimately, it only works with an international, free and open community, Sadads (talk) 15:39, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am not interested in your video or your cookies. I do not use Wikpidia at all. Someome pointed out to me that my very out of date and inaccurate bio was still there ... and I refuse to provide further information. FYI, I keep gettimg all of your "posts" in emails to me .. how come. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 16:01, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

what my birth certificate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 15:58, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

They will tell you what you need. With stuff you would not want splashed all over the internet by posting it here. I see someone already referenced the email. https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Contact_us has all of their contact info. Hopefully, the AfD will go to deletion, but that can take a week. If you contact the Foundation directly, they might be able to hasten the process. And you are right-- an encyclopedia should do a better job of fact checking content.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 16:03, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Could you speak English ... No one has responded to my email. what is AFD What foundation. I do not use Wikipedia/ I have personal library, books clip files. I have no idea what you are talking out. Use your own name as I do. Why can't I call a department . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 16:11, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

OK. I've linked you with everything you need. The Wikimedia Foundation owns Wikipedia. The email process will not be instantaneous. If you were to follow the link provided, it would be helpful. You can also call them at the numbers listed on the contact page. At the link. That you could follow.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 16:15, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please bear in mind two things about the phone numbers for the Wikimedia Foundation. First, because that numbers goes to the offices of the Foundation, they will be out of the office today for a US holiday—and because of the holiday, expect an even longer than normal wait before they reply to your voicemail. Second, although the Foundation owns Wikipedia, they do not necessarily become directly involved in editorial matters—so you may not get better or faster results than if you were to email the English Wikipedia volunteer team that handles concerns like yours.
The AfD that keeps getting mentioned is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marlene A. Eilers Koenig (2nd nomination). The normal cycle for a deletion is ten days, according to level of involvement and how the arguments are running. It could run longer if there's low participation or it's not clear what the consensus of editors is; it's possible to end quicker if there is clear and overwhelming consensus. —C.Fred (talk) 16:44, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Update-- It has been deleted and protected against further recreation.-- Dlohcierekim (talk) 22:37, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlenekoenig (talkcontribs) 01:35, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello again, Marlenekoenig.

Thank you for all your contributions so far. It might have seemed as if they'd be unwelcome, but we do appreciate every attempt to improve the encyclopedia, and removing outdated, wrong information from an biography of a living person is definitely such a good-faith attempt.

Some users might have called your edits "vandalism"; I personally disagree, as vandalism on Wikipedia is strictly defined as bad-faith, deliberate disruption. I do not believe that you have ever been acting in bad faith.

You have expressed some concerns that I would like to address, to help you with the next steps of the deletion discussion you've initiated.

  • Your first, strongest concern regarding edits to your talk page appears to be the usage of pseudonyms. While you are openly using your real name as a username, some other users do not appear to be using their real names when leaving messages on your page. I understand that this might feel strange; it can feel like arguing with someone who is wearing a motorcycle helmet and refusing to take it off. The impression likely gets amplified by the fact that over the Internet, we can't see each other's faces. This is, by the way, the reason why I am often using a lot of smileys. I am not a native English speaker, and the language barrier adds possible confusion for me and everyone who reads my text. To clarify my intentions, I use these little images in my messages. Many other people don't, and nobody is required to. It is my personal way of attempting to avoid possible problems before they can even occur.
You specifically said: "Use your own name.", "Again, someone who does not use their own name ... shameful. Unprofessional.", "None of you use real names."
I would like to clarify two points here: 1) Nobody is required to reveal their real name on Wikipedia; doing so yourself does not force everyone to do the same. 2) We do use our real names, and we do even have photos of ourselves visible on our pages. Here are two examples, just click the following two links and you will hopefully be positively surprised: User:Sadads, User:ToBeFree
  • You said that you "do not wish to be on Wikipedia". I can understand that it must feel weird and wrong to read a public article about yourself, written by someone else years ago, full of possibly outdated information. You tried to make other, more experienced editors aware of the problem, and their reaction just was "no consensus to delete the page". What an outrage!
The problem might be easier to understand if you consider recent abuse scandals by famous Hollywood directors. None of them would like to be mentioned in Wikipedia, but the public has strong interest in reliable, neutral and up-to-date information about these people. Imagine these people could have all Wikipedia and press articles about their deeds deleted on their request. Oh, what an outrage that would cause. Press freedom is an extremely important fundamental right that you, yourself rely on as an author of books. You have likely mentioned some famous people in your books. You have described their works, and cited their works as a source. How would you react if they asked you to censor your book? "Please remove chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 14 entirely from all further copies of your book. Reason: I do not wish to be mentioned in your book."
However, we will do our best to help you. Your article might well be deleted based on our Notability criteria, and the current deletion discussion is strongly going into the direction preferred by you. You are very welcome to have a closer look at the arguments supplied by the other editors there, and to voice your own opinion there. Just please make sure that it is based on our guidelines, for example the General Notability Guideline. Simply stating that you "do not wish to be on Wikipedia" is not sufficient to justify a deletion, and I hope that the above example explains why this is the case. Oh, and imagine the Chinese government would ask us to delete the article about China.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions here; we're here to help you, and we're investing a lot of our personal free time to make this encyclopedia work the way it does. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:47, 28 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
